All-time worst Panther starters?

There's an entertaining thread on this at Reddit, where you choose your team's all time worst starting line-up.  The only condition is that you have to choose players who actually started enough games to be considered a starter (so Brian St. Pierre is out, but Clausen's in play).

What do you think the Panthers would be?

A defense that would make any offense look good...

DE: Jason Peter, Chuck Wiley

DT: Nick Hayden, Sione Fua

LB: Lester Towns, Na'il Diggs, Hannibal Navies

CB: Sherrod Martin, Rashard Anderson

FS: Haruki Nakamura

SS: Damien Richardson

I think Martin would have done well as a CB tbh. He was too weak and soft to play safety but he was okay in coverage. He struggled in tackling and run support.

Worst DE is probably Ray Seals. We signed him as a free agent in 97 (if I remember correctly) and he was terrible.

He was good in Pittsburgh, but he was around 100 years old by the time he got to Carolina.  Which makes me think of another topic that I've often wondered about, and that's how good Capers was when he wasn't in charge of personnel and just focused on coaching.

In no particular order:

QB - Jimmy Clausen (goes without saying)

HB - Lamar Smith/2005 Stephen Davis (both averaged 3.5 YPC)

WR - D.J. Hackett, Rae Carruth, Louis Murphy, Dwayne Jarrett

LT/RT - Byron Bell

DE - Jason Peters

DT - Sione Fua, Ron Edwards

K - Justin Medlock
KR/PR - Joe Adams

    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
    • Good luck to Burns. He’s fine as a third pairing defensemen but Rod is too stubborn to do that.
