Did I make a statement about which side was true or did I propose a discussion question?

You've made it clear you don't like Rivera. It was in the form of a question but we know exactly what you were doing by asking it.

Actually, not true.

While I've questioned Rivera plenty, I actually supported benching Norman. Particularly so after what happened in the Bills game. Heck, I was ready to cut bait and send him packing because I thought he wasn't smart enough, but I'm now glad we didn't.

And to be clear, if I have something to say, I'm not shy about saying it straight out.

If I ask a question, then I'm asking for opinions. A method which, as many can tell you, is how I prefer to spark a discussion (as opposed to "here's my opinion; now everybody react to it").

It is a perfect time to extend Norman for another 2 years with little dead cap space as long as we can manage the guaranteed money. His cap is 666000 which is likely the vet minimum at this point. We could give him a five year contract with 3 voidable years to stretch out the cap hit but honestly if he is as good long term as he was in the short term last year he is a real talent. The issues are going to be keeping him in the starting lineup both with healthy body and healthy mind. He has always had the physical skills, it was the mental discipline that has improved. How much so will determine what kind of numbers are there. We could increase his salary by 500% and it will be huge win- win. I just hope that Norman is realistic about expecting a huge contract before he has proven himself over more than 1 season.

I'm not as high on Norman as most.....he hasn't proven himself enough to be this elite CB some here want to claim he now is...

BUT I do think it is the perfect time to extend him. Bc if he is now the real deal he doesn't command that type money yet

does anyone else notice that Norman started playing better when Bene and Boston got back on the field and Ealy started to produce...coupled with the horribly weak end of the year schedule we had? just hoping this wasn't fools gold.

We've noticed that Norman, like the other DBs, got better with the veteran presence of Roman Harper on the team.

Steve Wilks is, by all accounts, a great secondary coach, but many players will tell you that sometimes there's just no substitute for that veteran guy on the field who's seen it all before and helps you see what he sees.

Maybe, but you have made it clear you don't like Rivera, please don't try to deny that because I could go out and find posts.

Never tried to deny it.

But disliking his overall performance as a coach doesn't mean I disagree with every single move he makes.

I understand that, but would you be asking that question for "discussion's sake" if you were happy with his performance? I doubt it. I know I can't speak for you, and maybe you couldn't answer that question, but I really doubt it. It just came across to me as a backhanded way of criticizing Rivera.

I've criticized Rivera overtly plenty of times. I don't need to be subtle.

It's a pretty common thing on here for me to ask questions that I'm not passionate about one way or the other just because I enjoy good football discussion.

He played well ever since getting the starting job, not just suddenly because Bene, Boston, etc. got on the field and started to produce.  I don't know where you're getting that from.

He was one of the very few bright spots on the team during that terrible mid season stretch

Hell, I'd go as far as saying there's an argument for Norman being the best player on the defense for a stretch there mid season when CJ was still injured, and Star, TD, and even Luke weren't quite their otherworldly selves.  Though to be fair, Cason, Godfrey, and Decoud were so bad it really did make everyone on the defense seem worse.  Meanwhile, Norman just kept being Norman on his side.

Boston, Bene, and Norman are proof positive that 40 times can be overrated. All three guys had their draft stock hurt by their 40 times.

Boston: 4.59

Bene: 4.63

Norman: 4.66

Pretty amazing that 3/4s of our secondary coming down the stretch (a secondary that played pretty damn well I might add) were 4.6 guys who were drafted in the 4th and 5th rounds, two of whom were rookies.

The game's not played in underwear.
