NFL Free Agency Update Thread

I'm hearing Crabtree's deal is 1 year $3MM. Same as Peanut. Which leads me to ask, does everyone agree all things being equal that we got a better deal with Tillman than the Raiders got with Crabtree?

It's too early to tell. I think Crabtree will be more productive than Boykin if that answers anything.

If Tillman can return to his prior form, then I'd say we definitely got the better player.

Spikes would have made more sense if we hadn't already signed Trusnik.

As to Crabtree, good. Never wanted him here.

Spikes really makes no sense at all. He's a 2 down LB who is slow and can only play in the middle. Our MLB spot is somewhat occupied and requires the ability to cover well. He's probably the best run stuffing LB in the NFL and can be a stud in the right situation. It's just not in Charlotte.

He'd also be far more expensive than Trusnick and I'm pretty sure he doesn't play special teams.

Tillman's ended up being much less than originally reported: $1.7m.

He'd have been a backup MLB here, but he doesn't play special teams that I know of.

Trusnik is cheaper and makes more sense.

With Crabtree going to Oakland, fatass better be ready to draft a WR early

We're not in a hurry to give Cam weapons or protection just like every other year.

Lol I hope you guys don't say positive things about Gettleman when the team performs well this year and Crabtree is sucking balls out in Oakland.

    • He was saying Ron hid when he was cut/traded whatever that was.  I get being resentful, and feeling like that was gutless.  He, and Ron, neither are from the ‘breaking up with someone in a text or email is okay’ generation. That avoidance is seen as a lack of character.  Talking about it on camera how many years later? Why? And it is all one sided he said she said stuff. As he is speaking I am thinking well I bet that ain’t the whole story.    Between this type of stuff and him cheating on the wife stuff some of his shine is wearing off.
    • I was very critical of Ron Rivera as a coach for a range of reasons. But Steve Smith has been playing the victim for years now and it's just not working anymore. We know for a fact that he was disgruntled from the moment we drafted Cam Newton because of his own ego. That says more about him than anything he could say about Rivera. And yes Ron Rivera had a lot of faults. No excuses for it. We were right to move on from him. But ultimately Steve Smith couldn't hold it together with that group the same as he struggled to hold it together under previous regimes. He needs to grow up and accept his own role in the last few years of his Panthers career because there are things he could and should have done differently the same as anyone else. Stop seeking to only shift blame to everyone else and evolve or just stop talking and fade away. This isn't helping anyone and it is certainly not helping his image.
    • A friend of mine was involved in building Steve Smith's house and nearly came to blows with him during the process.  Love Smitty as a player, but I've heard very little good about him as a human being.
