Boykin to Visit per Rapoport

Certainly not the secondary FA market WR I hoped we'd be looking into, that's for sure. Gotta try to improve the entire roster, I get that. But, damn. Did we actively try to seek out a WR that might actually be slower than Jerricho Cotchery?

This is a 95% special teams signing.

Management said we would activly persue ST players. Boykin is a VERY good special teams player and has shown to step up and contribute at WR when needed. A very good value signing.

Nope, hes not a #2. Burn Gettleman at the stake!!

Those that are pissed and very unhappy.. honest question..

What if we snag a stud WR in the first two rounds?

he says BPA but hes drafted a need in his two drafts. Would that satisfy you?

Or are you not even thinking ahead that far because ya just want your fix now?

Honestly, I hope we do. None of the FA WR's left really get me excited. I could see a Crabree, Nicks or Short added but we really need to draft someone young that can grow with Cam and Benji.

I could see us going OT in round 1 like Collins and then someone like Sammy Coates in round 2.

It's really Why we kept Joe Webb too.

But you always have the vocal "Why sign this deadbeat third string qb" crowd that doesn't understand what the signing is for.

Rotoworld:

The Packers have opted not to tender restricted free agent WR Jarrett Boykin a contract, making him a free agent.

Buried on the depth chart in Green Bay, the move is likely best for Boykin's future. Boykin played just 122 snaps on offense last season, and was going to be no better than the Pack's No. 4 receiver in 2015. A slow-footed possession receiver, Boykin's phone won't be ringing off the hook the first week of free agency, but still only 25, he'll eventually get calls.

This has to be a depth signing.  It's just G-man staying ahead of the curve (just like with Oher) just in case things in the market go south for us. Everyone calm down.   Every receiver not named Kelvin Benjamin can freak the fug out if they want to, but Gettleman is 'bout dat competition, boss.

Can't rely on rookie WR's. Most don't pan out early.

I remember hearing a lot of the same people complaining about Bersin and Cotchery now complaining about Boykin.

Excuse me, since when did you all suddenly decide you wanted to keep Bersin and Cotchery? Gettleman brings in a big, young receiver from a good system to add competition to the #3 , #4, or #5 spot and you all wail and cry like Gettleman cut your balls off with a dull spoon because we didn't sign what you think is a #2 right away. And just tell me who considers Stevie Johnson or Michael Crabtree a speed demon anymore? Anybody remember all the arrests Britt had? Why are the Raiders letting DMoore go when they need weapons and have cap space from here to Alaska? Is that why TSmith got sooo much $$$ from the 9ers is because he's the ONLY WR that will EVER be available that's fast in free agency AND the draft? No fast kids at the Combine?

I feel like you're being delusionally irrational. I know you want to win and win NOW, but the team is not just 1 or 2 pieces away from expecting to win the Super Bowl every year. We have a few more spots to fill and another year to let them solidify. If you can't wait for that, find another team to cheer for. The rest of us will be enjoying the ride of another playoff run, even if it doesn't end how we'd like.

last season, several rookie WRs had a large impact with their respected teams.

Odel Beckham

Kelvin Benjamin

Mike Evans

Sammy Watkins

Jordan Mathews

Cooks

the list goes on bud

its another WR heavy draft my friend, but youre right, we should have broke the bank for torrey smith, who couldnt even out perform a 35 year old steve smith

that will totally set us up in the future

Last year was an anomaly. Usually it takes time for rookie wide receivers to learn the playbook. It's also not certain we'll take one in the 1st round.

I'm not saying sign a guy like T. Smith. Carolina should target a wr like Denarius Moore. Someone cheap that has good potential.

Nothing bad about it if it's meant to upgrade ST. Writers are saying it's a wr move though.

if last year was an anomaly, so will this year. the crop this year is very talented. if you put them in they will produce.

writers are speculating just like us. He's a #4/5 who will be a beast on ST. When called upon he can contribute but I gaurentee all of you he will be nothing more than a #4/5. he is exactly what DG said we would persue. ST guys

speed is on the way folks. it was ONE DAY of FA

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
