Working with projected comp. picks...

1st: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
The scenario I'm gaming here is that none of the top tackles fall to 25 and we're forced to look elsewhere. Well, Jaelen Strong is one hell of a consolation prize. He'd immediately give us one of the best young WR duos in the game.

2nd: Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State
What, no tackle?! Well, truth be told I don't expect a Jake Fisher or D.J. Humphries to fall this far, so we'd likely be reaching in the 2nd round to take anyone else. Plus, Gettleman seems to have faith in Michael Oher at left tackle and while I may disagree, I expect we'd go with a pass rusher in this scenario. Preston Smith is a beast and would give us a big-time prospect to develop as part of our rotation immediately and hopefully a lot more down the road.

3rd: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M
As I've said, I'm starting to feel like we Won't get one of the top tackles at 25. That being the case, it could be our best bet to wait until the 3rd round rather than reaching in the 2nd. Cedric Ogbuehi would be a sure-fire 1st rounder if not for his ACL injury so we could opt to take advantage of that and scoop him up in the 3rd. If he's not ready to go day 1, we've got Oher to start until he is.

4th: Buck Allen, RB, USC
We're obviously interested in adding a RB given the number of backs we've been linked to in meetings/visits. I don't see us going for an early-round back, but if we get a shot at Buck Allen in the 4th round he'd be hard to pass up. He runs a little upright for my liking, but that can be fixed with coaching and time.

5th: Laurence Gibson, OT, Virginia Tech
We waited until the 3rd round to take a tackle, so I'll double up here and take a guy who I feel has some big-time upside. He may not be ready day one, but he's someone I'd love to see us take and develop; I think he could really pay off next season if not sooner.

 

Jordan+Richards+Stanford+v+Colorado+5Jae
5th (COMP): Jordan Richards, SS, Stanford
We really need to look for a long-term replacement - not to mention an upgrade - for Roman Harper. I don't see us addressing this position too early, but I really like Jordan Richards as a mid-round prospect who could develop into something for us.

6th: Justin Coleman, CB, Tennessee
We all know how important the nickel corner is in our defense and Coleman specialized in playing nickel this past year at Tennessee. He'd be a good get in the 6th round if he's available and could give us a really solid trio of young corners along with Josh Norman and Bene' Benwikere.

6th (COMP): Martrell Spaight, OLB, Arkansas
We could use some linebacker depth and special teams help and Martrell Spaight would fit the bill in the 6th round. Who knows, we may get lucky and find TD's long-term replacement.

7th: Terry Williams, DT, East Carolina
We know Gettleman loves his DL and hog mollies. Well, Terry Williams fits both and flashed dominance at times at ECU, even if he was a little inconsistent. He's an under the radar prospect who I feel could be a good bit better in the pros than in college if he works on his conditioning and lands in the right scheme.

I don't think he'll go in the 2nd. Maybe earlier in the 3rd than we pick, but I still think he'd be a reach in the 2nd with his injury. I certainly wouldn't pass on Preston Smith for him in the 2nd given how deep the tackle class is this year. I expect T.J. Clemmings and D.J. Humphries to go late 1st/early 2nd and Jake Fisher to be gone by the mid-2nd and those are the only two guys I view as worthy of 2nd round picks.

 

My fallback option in the 3rd was Donovan Smith from Penn State. He's a Gettleman type player who has generated some buzz.

Agree. I think we need OT worse, but think Gman wants a starter, or at least big time contributor from day 1 w 25. That makes me think we go WR, cb, or some other spot in 1st.

There are 5-6 WR that some folks like in 1st. There are 6-7 OT also projected as possible 1st.

When you throw in the 2qbs, edge rushers, DT, cbs, we should be able to get a starter at 25.

I just wouldn't get too stuck on WR or OT.

      I mean I'd like to add a monster TE as much as anyone else but ultimately what use will that serve with a QB who had 54 passing yards in 4 quarters at one point last season? Defense defense defense.

      Personally I think he's a nightmare to cover I think linebackers generally aren't fast enough to keep up with him in coverage and cornerbacks don't have the strength to tackle him one-on-one in physically bring them down which would normally lead to a broken tackle or a nasty stiff arm or just bully ball play sure you could find a receiver with comparable speed like Cooper but he's faster than Cooper sure you can find a wide receiver that is the same size but he's probably More powerful than them and a better blocker.  The size speed athleticism package that he is in is completely unique it's easier to say I'd rather have just a big blocker because we've never seen this type of profile before I'm a risk taker I think you would be God blessed if this was there at 19 I think if you can get a guy that's a tight end who immediately becomes the fastest guy on your offense and at the same time that third wide receiver that can stretch and burn defenses over the top that's the perfect what the Panthers need type weapon.

      I think you're under selling Sadiq. They are two different players in terms of how they win. Loveland is 2 inches taller maybe 5-6 pounds heavier. Comparing his speed to sadiq.. well your comparing a 4.7 guy to a 4.3 guy I'm seeing a guy that can take a bubble screen from the tight end position and turn it into a house call. I'm not saying the guy is a certified home run pick but I don't think there's really a president's for a comparison for this kind of athlete. It's easy to say this doesn't look like Warren or Loveland because we haven't seen guys that fit this profile The closest you might be able to get is Vernon Davis.  He's not as sure far as those guys were but at 19 I think almost everybody is going to have some warts and he's a lottery ticket of could be top 10 in the draft player or could fail I am more of a risk taker I think he fits the athletic profile that could be a homerun, like I said he's almost 40 lb bigger than Cooper and like 4-5 in taller than Cooper so and he's faster. So whatever you think Cooper gives you I think he does that and more. If you want to go with one of the office alignment I can understand that as well but for value as a receiving threat I don't think there's a bigger value at number 19.
