Sacks + QB Hits allowed, 2014

All I know is that since Cam, we've swung the tide against Ryan and Brees. Two guys with more impressive passing stats than Cam.

Has more to do with the D.

I knew SEA OL wasnt great, but man I didnt know it was that bad. I already had alot of respect for Wilson, even more so now. Dude is just smooth.

Good point. The Steelers and Eagles games were hard to watch.

Why bring up hurt so bad?

The Eagles game was legitimately one of the first times that I'd turned off the TV on my team. (Besides 2010)

I just felt like "Why am I staying up watching this lack of execution & effort, when I have responsibilities to take care of, and work in the morning." I don't regret it...only regret missing Kelvin's 2 TD's.

The Packers game was equally as bad or likely worse IIRC but I watched that one all of the way through

It has a lot to do with the D. WRT Wilson, I have knocked him consistently for being a poor pocket passer but at a certain point, i have to give him his due. Considering that oline and the dearth of WR options, dude has been very solid and consistent.

not sure where the "poor pocket" passer stigma came from. i certainly didnt feel that way watching him in the ACC.

the only negative i had for wilson coming out of college was his size / height.

he might not be Manning or Brady in the pocket but he is certainly no slouch.

He has a tendency to escape the pocket way to soon. Usually when his 1st read isnt open. But he is a tremendous passer on the run, so it doesnt really matter

Cam is still ahead of the curve that most people predicted when he came into the league. He has grown a lot and suffered adversity to the point that he has the experience he needs to move to the next level. An improved O line will give Cam the confidence he needs to be patient in the pocket. He has shown the ability to be an accurate passer when he has time and is in rhythm. I think that Ginn will make a bigger difference than people imagine. He had a career year in 2013 and was getting better towards the end. This was a good combination that should pick up where they left off. Cam is our franchise quarterback for better or worse and our success is his success. We need to keep upgrading and providing him weapons to improve the offense. I think that a healthy Cam will look like he did at the end of last year and a good running game will take some of the pressure off of him. I am hopeful the o line will be improved and healthy. and I think we will pick up a WR, a RB and a tackle in the draft.

If you watch the games you know luck had a better line than cam. Lucks line gave him 7 sec to throw on most occations. I'm also am sure luck would prefer to have a back like Cam has in Stewart. I think that's what they are trying to give him in gore but we will see how that plays out.

Respect to TonyN for bringing context to the stats.

One thing I will say is that anyone who watched Atlanta last year can tell you is that their line was in worse shape than ours, and they too, were at a respectable place on the list.

I think what our Line's problem last year was we had some games that were just flat out embarrassing. When it rained, it poured. Couple the poor o-line play with the ridiculous play calling/offensive scheme Shula drew up with the long developing routes for our receivers who couldn't get open, and you have a recipe for disaster. When he let Cam do his thing and run a more up tempo, no huddle style offense, they actually looked competent across the board.

I'm not about to get butthurt over these stats because they are in a vacuum. Last year was Cam's worst season to date, however he showed in spurts that he could actually be a lethal, legitimate traditional NFL QB. When he got too cute and ran too much, his mechanics and passing stats took a hit, but the offense ran better and it added a new dynamic to everything. This year is really a crossroads for Cam. He should be healthy, he should actually be familiar with the Receivers that are coming back, and he should have a better O-line from the get go. A lot of people don't want to believe it but both Luck and Wilson were both more polished passers coming into the NFL than Cam was. Cam is still growing, the dude is only 25, about to be 26 in a few months.

Regardless, he sure is fun as hell to watch.

This where it gets tricky because you do have to take into account how long Stafford and Luck hold onto the ball. Despite our criticisms of Cam, both Luck and Stafford still hold onto the ball in the pocket too long.

People keep saying if you would watch other players play, well I do and why Luck and Manning have two different states is there play as you have said. Luck gets big plays because he holds on to the ball, but he also pays the price for that. Lucks line is leaps and bounds better than Wilson's and Newtons though. Manning's is so low because he releases the ball quick and his per snap reads(he is the best in that regard). Let's give DG and our coaching staff some credit though the line was not terrible at the end of last year. Bell was the worst player on that line and that's a good thing. Our struggles late in the season was more about cam still being banged up and our WR situation.
