Why Picking up Jonathan Martin was a Waste of Time...

Miami=workplace harassment. Anyone able to work well with others when those others threaten to rape your mom and sister? Some lines you just don't cross with co-workers. I wouldn't have my heart in working there, either.

SF=Harbaugh's boy. Turns out Harbaugh was on the hot seat even before the season started. Willing to bet that Harbaugh leaving is the reason all his boys are leaving, retiring, or getting released.

The guy was a 23 year old rookie @LT on a Dolphins team playing out the string against 2012 first team All-Pro Aldon Smith and a 49ers team on their way to the Super Bowl. Doesn't have a D@MN thing to do with him being a part of the two deep at either tackle position as a 26 year old on the 2015 Carolina Panthers for a bargain basement price.

Easy there, fella. I'm on board for us picking him up. I was just pointing out that that was a lot of miscues from only two games

Yeah I can see your point with Harbaugh.

All that said, I just don't want to have the Byron Bell/Nate Chandler year again.  We are hoping that Oher (who probably is penciled in as a starter) and Martin can become what people thought they would be.  We can't afford to waste this kind of time.  What if the Panthers decide to pass up on say, Ereck Flowers, because they believe Oher and Martin will be good enough pieces they've brought in?  That is the problems signings like these can cause.

The problem with this is Rivera and Gettleman get into this "hopeful" state with OTs we know for a fact can't do the job. We know Martin sucks. While it may seem like we got a deal with his contract, in actuality we will insert him in the starting line up, and Cam will proceed to get killed on just about every snap. So when we cut Martin the following year, Cam would have gained a 100 years worth of his career in the same year. Is this how we want to treat our franchise QB?

I'm not so sure it's "hopeful" as it is that they have try to keep a positive front and no slay the guys in the roster in the media. At the same time, they're not interested in overpaying when they believe they can find the guy in the draft. However, if a guy they like (because not all OTs are created equal) isn't available or there's a better pick they're going to stay the course and go with what their research tells them is the best player ALL factors considered.

GMan has said multiple times it's a process. It's not just the upcoming season it's Cam's entire career or Luke's entire career. They're trying to set our franchise players up for success that lasts. Can't do that being irrational. Anytime we can bring in any player who was selected in the 2nd round, we should. If nothing else, it's depth or competition: 2 things that separate elite organizations from what we've been for the better part of 20 years, mediocre.

Any questions?

About your cute lil video, since you only show him as a Dolphin. I believe it was during this time that he was Incognito's #itch. When you're treated like a #itch, you play like a #itch.

Those days are over for him.

I hope

I hear you, but we got to get Cam some adequate protection soon.  Of course depending on what Jake Long plans on doing, we need to be looking his direction.  In spite of his injury history.  That is the kind of move I'm waiting for.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
