Whatever happened to WW2 games?

Do you like online or single player stuff?

I play Heroes & Generals and War Thunder. Both are free to play. No single player at all in H&G though.

I started out online with the original Call of Duty, which I played the hell out of. I also loved the Medal of Honor games and Call of Duty games on the PS2. Then Brothers in Arms came out and took it to another level.

WWII sims ended when programmers were able to shoehorn all the glitzy technical stuff into the GUI to keep the twichy eyes and fingers moving at all times unfortunately. I still would rather start up another Call of Duty session throwing potatoes at scarecrows dressed up as Nazis before getting tossed into Stalingrad than have all the computer aided screens and stuff all over..

To expand on my earlier post, an RPG set in WWII, modeled after a Fallout/Elder Scrolls/Dragon Age would be the poo. I doubt you could have the same depth to the game and crazy amounts of missions, but it would be fun.

Nice idea. Missions based on spying, sabotage could be cool.

WWII Fps was my poo back then.

I was way into MOHAA especially online. Was also in some tournaments and leagues playing with a clan. We played BF1942, MOHAA expansion packs, COD etc but I will always remember Brothers in Arms, me and a few guys ran a fan site for that game before it came out. It soiled any respect I had for Ubisoft.

We tried to get interviews, previews etc and had a pretty decent forum and site going and they either ignored us, or when they did give us stuff it was either completely different than how the actual game was or just flat out lied. I was so hyped for that game, and was so disappointed it was the last WWII Fps game I got super hyped for. I lost interest in about a week into that game.

Problem was every one was making FPS WWII games back then. It was oversaturated, you had EA bled the poo out of the MOH series (surprise surprise) BF had 1942 and its expansions but went to Vietnam etc and continued to today, you had mods Red Orcastra, RTS games everything. You can thank Saving a Private Ryan for this boom but it died around 2004-2006

Could always play this: http://www.battlegroundeurope.net/home

All online WWI game that has been around for probably 10-15 years now. They've made massive updates to the game though, so the graphics, physics engines, and everything else has evolved and gotten better over time. The map is half scale of Europe and it is probably the most realistic war game ever made.

Entire cities are destructible. Each "game" can last months, although some have been as short as 10 days.

Contains infantry, navy, and air force. Really cool game, I just don't have a good enough PC to play it.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
