Any Rap/Hip-Hop Fans? Top 5s

Always like discussing my top 5 right now, and my top 5 upcoming. A lot of people have different taste and it helps me find new artists. So this is what I have right now.

Top 5 right now

1. Drake- I thought his new album was fire for the most part, especially the songs Energy, Know Yourself, 10 Bands, 6 God, No Tellin', 6PM In New York,

2. J. Cole- Forest Hills Drive was fire. One of those albums you can listen from start to finish.

3. Kendrick- I can't dismiss the dude because GKMC was a classic. But, I heard a lot of people thought his new album was trash. Haven't listened to it yet, so would really appreciate feedback for this.

4. Logic- His new album was really good I thought. Nikki, Under Pressure, Buried Alive, Gang Related, Now are just a couple of my favorites off the album.

5. Flatbush Zombies- That Clockwork Indigo Ep they were on was so fire!! Check that out for sure. Overall I think they make a lot of quality songs.

Honorable Mention- Big Sean- Dude came out of nowhere for me. Wasn't a big fan, and still some of his songs are corny, but I thought he went hard in a lot of his songs from his new album. Check it out just stay away from IDFWU.

Top 5 Upcoming

1. Mick Jenkins- Check this do out. Start with Martyrs, you won't be disappointed.

2. QuESt- This guy's beat and flow combination is sick. Start with Hunger and Nowhere to go.

3. Futuristic- Crazy lyrics and flow. Doesn't have too much out right now but check out The Greatest and No Way to start.

4. King Los- Not really new, but still kind of unknown to a lot of people. One of the most talented rappers out there for sure.

5. Isaiah Rashad- Can't lie haven't listened to too much of him, but from what I have heard he is a beast. Resembles Kendrick a lot.

we've done this before.

someone will post something like "you can't spell crap without rap!"

blah blah blah.

i wont post mine but kendrick lamars new album is not trash, in fact it might be better than GKMC because it takes a much broader, anthropological look at the history of African-Americans from slavery to present day ferguson riots. It's much more thought provoking imo.

Dark as the midnight hour or bright as the mornin' sun
Give a fug about your complexion, I know what the Germans done
Sneak (dissin’)
Sneak me through the back window, I’m a good field nigga
I made a flower for you outta cotton just to chill with you
You know I'd go the distance, you know I'm ten toes down
Even if master listenin', cover your ears, he 'bout to mention

[Hook]

Dark as the midnight hour, I'm bright as the mornin' Sun
Brown skinned, but your blue eyes tell me your mama can't run
Sneak (dissin')
Sneak me through the back window, I’m a good field nigga
I made a flower for you outta cotton just to chill with you
You know I'd go the distance, you know I'm ten toes down
Even if master's listenin', I got the world's attention
So I'mma say somethin' that's vital and critical for survival
Of mankind, if he lyin', color should never rival
Beauty is what you make it, I used to be so mistaken
By different shades of faces
Then wit told me, "You're womanless, woman love the creation"
It all came from God then you was my confirmation
I came to where you reside
And looked around to see more sights for sore eyes
Let the Willie Lynch theory reverse a million times with...

[Hook]

You like it, I love it
You like it, I love it

[Rapsody:]
Let me talk my Stu Scott, ‘scuse me on my 2pac
Keep your head up, when did you stop? Love and die
Color of your skin, color of your eyes
That’s the real blues, baby, like you met Jay’s baby
You blew me away, you think more beauty in blue green and grey
All my Solomon up north, 12 years a slave
12 years of age, thinkin’ my shade too dark
I love myself, I no longer need Cupid
And forcin’ my dark side like a young George Lucas
Light don’t mean you smart, bein’ dark don’t make you stupid
And frame of mind for them bustas, ain’t talkin’ “Woohah!”
Need a paradox for the pair of dots they tutored
Like two ties, L-L, you lose two times
If you don’t see you beautiful in your complexion
It ain’t complex to put it in context
Find the air beneath the kite, that’s the context
Yeah, baby, I’m conscious, ain’t no contest
If you like it, I love it, all your earth tones been blessed
Ain’t no stress, jigga boos wanna be
I ain’t talkin’ Jay, I ain’t talkin’ Bey
I’m talkin’ days we got school watchin’ movie screens
And spike yourself esteem
The new James Bond gon’ be black as me
Black as brown, hazelnut, cinnamon, black tea
And it’s all beautiful to me
Call your brothers magnificent, call all the sisters queens
We all on the same team, blues and pirus, no colors ain’t a thing

Barefoot babies with no cares
Teenage gun toters that don’t play fair, should I get out the car?
I don’t see Compton, I see something much worse
The land of the landmines, the hell that’s on earth

After Nas it gets hazy for me. He has always been my favorite. Saw him live back in 2008...he was on the stage alone, under a single spotlight, and had the whole crowd rapping along to every word all night long.

Speaking of seen live:

Nas

Drake

Nelly

Snoop

Game

Meth @ Red

Wiz

J Cole

Rick Ross

Fab

Big Sean

Who I need to see next? Jay and Luda

    • Sounds like the pressure of all the fans wanting him fired might finally be getting to him... That, or Rico said "trade me now if you aren't going to make me the lead back"
    • I have been paying so little attention after losses (and wins, actually, because I'm mildly excited by them), that I missed Dave's seeming change of heart on Rico and Chuba.  Just when I criticized him for not being able to make the tough decisions and wanting to be Mr. Politically Correct nice guy, when asked about the timeshare between Chuba and Rico, he says:   "We cannot ignore the fact that Rico has been exceptional in a couple of games and in the opportunities he's had over the last two weeks. He's made some excellent plays, love the tempo and violence that he's running with. And these are all things we're talking about and working through this week as we look back on these last four games and really taking a snapshot of what's been successful for us. These are conversations that we do definitely have to have."   On basically whether or not it was his job to keep the RBs "happy," DC replied:   "Yeah, that's not the goal," he replied. "The goal is to make sure we put the right guys out there. That's my job. So I really do have to look at that and evaluate it and make the best decision for the Panthers, collectively. And for me, I have to make sure I keep it about the football."   So now all of a sudden, he knows his job. Well, some of you might say that he always knew his job. My response is that he surely wasn't putting it into action. You watch what people do, not what they say. And that even applies here. We'll actually see if his actions match the words of his newfound epiphany pertaining to our two top RBs., something that we saw a couple of weeks ago (or at least a week ago).    https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/10/27/panthers-week-8-dave-canales-rico-dowdle-chuba-hubbard/86923984007/
    • Just about everyone I have ever seen that was a first time HC, mostly successful coordinators, said there was stuff they couldn’t have imagined.  Canales only had one season as a coordinator. A steep learning curve should be expected. Help in the form of a mentor would have been a good idea.
