Disc Golf

I just find it hilarious.  I've been twice (solo) in 3 days and my arm is numb.  Wish I knew all of the throws.

The funny part is watching how serious some of the players are.  Two guys in front of me had bags, shorts, golf shoes and umbrella.  Guy behind me playing while smoking a joint.  Some playing fast, some slow as ...   All different ages.

On one fairway shot I hit two tree's and still 60+ feet from hole and nailed it for par.

anyone else throw?  any pointers on dogleg lefts?

I play pretty religiously, but not seriously.  I'm a member of the PDGA and I've played in a few tournaments around Charlotte.  I also have one of those bags you speak of.  Doesn't mean I won't go out there with a few beers to play.  That's the beautiful thing about the sport though.  You have people out there drinking, smoking or actually practicing to get better, but everyone for the most part is pretty relaxed.

I never thought I would I would have a bag, but I guarantee that if you keep playing, you'll end up having one after a couple of years.  As you get better, you'll realize that you do need different discs for different shots.  There really is a difference in how the different types of discs fly.

By the way, most people play in tournaments because of the player's package you get.  Most of the time you get two discs, an athletic shirt and another small item.  Not too shabby for the $35 - $50 entry fee.

How are you throwing?  If you throw Right-hand Backhand you really shouldn't be having an issue with dogleg lefts.  Also, your arm is probably numb because your not using your body to throw.

One of my cousins plays in a disc golf league. He'll leave work in the middle of a job and go play somewhere, he's that into it. I started to get into after he talked me into going with him a few times to a course in the Durham area around 2007 or 2008, but it just wasn't for me. I think they still have a course out near Duke campus somewhere, maybe.

Yes. Everyone was relaxed , friendly, it was a blast, I am hooked.

I am throwing right handed backhand and the dog legs right come naturally. But when I try to correct for dogleg left I get this double Heizer thing going where the disc ultimately goes right in an S move

It has been crowded so I want to get out there and work on my form and that might help the soreness. I tried to take a couple of 600 mg ibuprofens but I think I took hydrocodone instead, oh well!

Well, consider yourself lucky; most people have to work to get that.  Hell, I still suck at them most of the time.  You must be using a really understable disc.  Also, I imagine you're performing a sweeping motion with your arm instead of a "lawn mower pull" which is probably contributing to your arm being sore.

Arroz is right, you have an understable disc if it is going right with a backhand right. Try to release the disc flatter (our even at a downward angle) and it will hug those left doglegs just right.

Or, get an overstable disc (Star Boss is my favorite stable driver) and you will not be able to to get it to fly left enough. Then get a heavy ass putter and you'll be on your way to filling out your bag.

A friend introduced me 7/8 years ago and I got hooked. Here's hoping for the same to you, buddy.

Champion Boss is my goto driver when I need distance. I can throw the hell out of it LHFH. Only problem is that you don't get to many opportunities to really chuck a disc.

I play, but I'm not very good. I mainly do it because I can get some exercise and because I've got a course about a mile from the house.

My father-in-law is a multiple time SC state senior champion, and I used to give him a hard time about it, but now I really enjoy it. He also started his own company making discs, bags, baskets and now shoes, so I was able to get some really nice gear on the cheap.

If anyone ever rolls up to Frank Liske to play, hit me up.

when did the word "Disc" replace "Frisbee" ??

Frisbee is a brand name, disc is generic.  Like Kleenex is a type of tissue paper, or Q-Tip a type of swab.

I love to play disc golf, but I can't get out as much as I like to.  Charlotte has some really good courses to play too.

Renaissance is a beast from the tips, but I like to play Kilborne and Sugaw the most.

I have a collection (mostly found) but my 2 never leave behinds are my Valkyrie and my Wraith.

    • Interestingly I think we have kind of of gone through this as an organization. Richardson implemented an FO driven tank. Bad roster, no cash spent, coach uninterested. It may have been for different reasons but I think the results were the same. A team that wasn't going to win many if any games. We ended up with the #1 pick. Cam Newton came in and changed the franchise. It worked, but Cam himself pointed to the losing culture in the locker room needing to be changed. It probably took about 2-3 years for that to happen. Tank worked pretty damn well for us. Cam is one of one. Not another like him, everyone can't deliver on his draft status AND change a culture basically on his own.  So as an exercise here are the last 30 #1 picks. If you tanked and got to pick #1 how many of these guys do you think were worth it? Not just good players, but franchise changers. Guys who will take your culture and shift it so the tank was actually worth it. I would say maybe 9 or 10 guys would be worth a tank, pending the last 5 picks?    2025: Cam Ward (Miami (FL)) - Tennessee Titans 2024: Caleb Williams (USC) – Chicago Bears 2023: Bryce Young (Alabama) – Carolina Panthers 2022: Travon Walker (Georgia) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2021: Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) – Jacksonville Jaguars 2020: Joe Burrow (LSU) – Cincinnati Bengals 2019: Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) – Arizona Cardinals 2018: Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) – Cleveland Browns 2017: Myles Garrett (Texas A&M) – Cleveland Browns 2016: Jared Goff (California) – Los Angeles Rams 2015: Jameis Winston (Florida State) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2014: Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina) – Houston Texans 2013: Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – Kansas City Chiefs 2012: Andrew Luck (Stanford) – Indianapolis Colts 2011: Cam Newton (Auburn) – Carolina Panthers 2010: Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) – St. Louis Rams 2009: Matthew Stafford (Georgia) – Detroit Lions 2008: Jake Long (Michigan) – Miami Dolphins 2007: JaMarcus Russell (LSU) – Oakland Raiders 2006: Mario Williams (North Carolina State) – Houston Texans 2005: Alex Smith (Utah) – San Francisco 49ers 2004: Eli Manning (Mississippi) – San Diego Chargers 2003: Carson Palmer (USC) – Cincinnati Bengals 2002: David Carr (Fresno State) – Houston Texans 2001: Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) – Atlanta Falcons 2000: Courtney Brown (Penn State) – Cleveland Browns 1999: Tim Couch (Kentucky) – Cleveland Browns 1998: Peyton Manning (Tennessee) – Indianapolis Colts 1997: Orlando Pace (Ohio State) – St. Louis Rams 1996: Keyshawn Johnson (USC) – New York Jets 1995: Ki-Jana Carter (Penn State) – Cincinnati Bengals
