LaCanfora discusses how Collins is better off (in light of his circumstances)

Jason La Canfora believes that La'el Collins is in a better position today than he would have been as a later round pick.

Had he been drafted in the final four rounds of the draft today, however, he stood to lose out substantially more on several levels than he will by going undrafted. Kudos to his representatives for telling teams Collins would not sign if drafted Saturday. While it may not have precluded teams from taking him, the reality is had someone used a seventh-round comp pick on Collins he would have lost out.

He also basically affirmed in the other thread which basically said that it wasn't a stupid ploy after all for his agent to put out the word that he wouldn't sign, but a smart, calculated game of chicken once the writing was on the wall regarding the NFL's refusal to allow Collins in the 2016 draft.

Perhaps the most important tidbit, though he didn't give a reason, is that La Canfora believes that Collins is coming to Carolina. Listen to the second vid that autoplays on the story's page, where La Canfora is reviewing the draft, and go to about 1:50. While basically throwing shade on our draft, LaCanfora says that he "guesses" the Panthers will sign Collins as an undrafted free agent.

Edit: OK, perhaps La Canfora was making a greater point (as pointed out by our very own Roger Goodell), but he did make the mental connection of Collins and the Panthers.

Wow if La'el signs with Carolina that would be a steal. I really wish this would happen but sadly I doubt it. We never get these kind of opportunities.

Stop with the woe is us crap. Our first two first round picks this decade will perhaps be the greatest offensive and defensive players of the decade. We're back to back division champs and have had a very respectable and competitive existence when looking at the big picture. Also, this is a very unique opportunity period, for any team. Unprecedented. There is zero logical reason La'el won't be a Panther.

Im sure a lot of other teams are paying close attention. Would be nice for Dave to open up the checkbook. Do we have room left on the cap?

The great thing about this scenario is there's a certain cap on what you can pay UDFAs (chump change, relatively speaking) just like other draftees, so it all comes down to which team Collins would want to play for, and he'd be hard pressed to find a better situation than ours.

la canfora is always wrong

sorry dudes but la'el aint coming here

can you name a better spot for him than carolina?  He will start here.  He will play along side his teammate at LSU, and he will be playing for a playoff caliber team.  what more could he want?

    • It was in the updated roster thread. All signings and waver pickups are in there.
    • Great move Panthers.  Hope he is proven to take the #2 spot.  "Keep Pounding"🤩
    • this is where the Bryce defense goes off the rails for me.  We all know Bryce isn't a deep ball chunk play QB.  He doesn't have those physical tools and he doesn't play the game w/ that mindset.  It simply is not what he is.  Then you got folks going essentially going, well actually Shaq was a very efficient 3 pt shooter this season.  He shot 50% from behind the arc and Steph Curry was only at 48%.  So yeah, Shaq is a very effective 3 pt shooter.  Don't say he isn't a 3 point shooter.  Meanwhile, Shaq went 1 of 2 on the season and Steph shot 9343924 3s.  Russell Wilson is a deep ball chunk QB.  Baker is. Geno was his comeback season (best in the league that year I think is the correct call).  That's the Canales pass tree. EVERY QB throws deep at some point.  Arguing you can find a good grade when they went deep one week is just that.   No one can argue Bryce plays the game like a young Wilson throwing f you hail marys downfield.   Jake Delhomme fits Canales more than any Carolina Panther QB.  Teddy Bridgewater can grade out efficiently on his deep passes.  That doesn't make him a deep ball chunk QB.  2 totally different convos.    It would be better for everyone IMO if our org accepted what the unicorn was and built a team around that given they invested so much in him.....which is the criticism I started day 1 when they put him in Frank Reich's offense.  He didn't fit that.  He doesn't fit the Canales tree either.    NFL is about fit more than anything and it's what Carolina gets most wrong.  We essentially run offenses we don't have the QB talent for and you can say the same w/ the 3-4 D.  That's the Bryce era.
