Patriots accused of cheating (redux)

From a thread posted earlier today that got deleted...

Karlos Dansby accuses the Patriots of sabotaging opponents' communication systems

And he's not the first one, or the only one, to suspect them of this

After the Jaguars lost to the Patriots in the playoffs following the 2005 season, then-Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said the headsets “mysteriously malfunctioned.”

In 2007, Paul Zimmerman of Sports Illustrated reported that in a 2006 Lions-Patriots game in New England, then-Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz had Detroit’s offense off to a good start until he lost the ability to call plays because the communications system went out. According to that report, it happened to the Lions twice, both times in the middle of drives when the Lions were picking up steam.

Zimmerman’s report also quoted Bengals coach Marvin Lewis as saying the same thing that happened to the Lions had happened to the Bengals as well: “Yeah, I know,” Lewis said. “Headset went out. It happened to me in Foxboro, too.”

Maybe it was just someone's kid playing with his walkie talkie.

The worse part is even if it was proven or suspected beyond a reasonable doubt nothing would have happened. I don't blame the patriots, I blame the NFL and the lack of supervision of teams and their operations. Especially teams who repeatedly have issues.

The tampering with headsets and recording of plays should be banishable offenses..sadly they do not need to do this as I do think Belecheck is a great football mind. The win at all costs in addition to it ruins any good this franchise does.

Is he, though?

Deflated footballs for better ball security (by a ridiculous margin)...

Interference with other teams' communications at crucial points in the game...

Videotaping practices, signals, etc.

...all that plus playing in one of the league's worst divisions all this time.

If they've been doing those things - and probably others we don't know about - for all these years, are they really that good, or just good at cheating?

I think in game management when they go into roster formations they implement for 1 game and all the other evolving parts of the offense changing over the years I do no think you can say that the cheating is MOST of their success.

I just think it is like being the Alex Rod of football....you are the most gifted guy in baseball history and then you take roads on top of it.

Point is, no matter if there are great minds at work or not.... any success is dismissed(rightfully so) by the extra 5% edge they try to gain by cheating.  INDY was blown out and it was not bc of football air management.  it was due to defensive schemes and inability of Indy to stop the run game.

Everyone that dismisses each little act of cheating as no big deal needs to step back and look that all the little things add up to a big advantage.

Even if they figure out the communication problem the fall guy will be some low level employee that did it on his own accord

Some employee will refer to himself as The Disconnector and the Pats will say it is because he is quitting smoking and disconnecting himself from cigarettes.
