2011 NFL draft revisited, would you take JJ Watt over Cam?

Recommended Posts

Firstly, there are DEs as good or maybe better than Watt in the league. Watt just fit the better profile for marketing. The gap between Watt and Hardy, for example, is not that much.  Watt is a good player on a bad team so he gets to rush every down with no team discipline. The same way Kevin Love(NBA) was a supposed super star in Minnesota(Timberwolves), then once he went to play with Lebron, a real superstar, he can barely keep up. Easy to pile up stats when a team is outta contention week 5. I'd take Justin Houston any day over Watt. And, yes, that's the guy who had the most sack last year. He's just not being hyped since he doesn't have the marketing profile that fits the NFL.

So, to answer your question, hell NO! People lick Watt's balls for the same reason they lick Luck's, Manziel's, The Golden Calf of Bristol's, etc. Just propaganda. Don't try to promote your agenda by disrespecting Cam.

Where have you been when Cam was breaking rushing and passing records! Where have you been when Cam was dragging his team to the playoffs! I guess that doesn't matter because JJWAAATTTTTT

Lastly, the Texans have a sh!tty defense, they've ranked bottom 3rd of the league. And, yes, that's with JJ WAAAATTTTT. How this guy keep getting hyped while he plays for team that keep picking top 5 is beyond me.

His team never win yet JJWAAAATTTTT. That's laughable.

Cam isn't a better QB than Luck.

Luke isn't a better defender than Watt.

You offer those two pairings to 32 GMs and 31 of them take Luck/Watt. There's nothing wrong with that. Because Watt is considered the best defender in football and Luck is considered the best young QB in football. Not sure there's another young QB/defender combo someone would take over Cam/Luke. None off the top of my head. But Luck/Watt I would take every time.

I'm fairly certain the series is 2-2 the last two years, but who am I to throw facts around.

Cam vs Luck... which QB...

Won the Heisman Trophy?

Won the SEC Championship?

Won the BCS Championship?

Owns NFL Rookie Yardage Record?

Owns NFL Rookie TD Record?

Career NFL Playoffs...

Luck: 56% Cmp, 9 TD, 12 Int, 70.8 Rtg

Cam:: 61% Cmp, 5 TD, 5 Int, 80.3 Rtg

Luck is not the golden child of football that everyone makes him out to be. He has been proclaimed as the 2nd coming of a Jesus-Elway-Manning hybrid since he was in high school.

And he's never won poo.

He didn't win a Heisman or championship in college. He fell to Newton for the Heisman & played like poo in big games & lost a chance to play for a title (that Newton also won).

He hasn't won anything in the NFL either besides beating up on his shitty division. His playoff performances have been downright atrocious.

Not to mention Luck has twice as many years experience as a starting QB. He's a mostly finished product. Cam is still learning to play on the run.

Is Luck the best young QB in the NFL? Arguably. Is he hands down better than Newton? Hell no.

“And Cam Newton – that’s plutonium-grade raw material, you know? I haven’t seen upside like with this guy.“

Jim Harbaugh made those comments in 2011 right after leaving Stanford for the 49ers. The offensive minded coach & QB guru who had just spent 3 years coaching Andrew Luck flat out said Cam Newton was the best QB prospect he'd seen.

So no, I would not trade Cam/Luke for Luck/Watt.

PS...

That's 2-2 head to head. Cam has won the 2 ganes that mattered most & back to back division titles over Brees.

Enjoy your shitty team falling back into mediocrity as Brees continues to deteriorate into an old, washed up QB.

imagine how mad haplo is going to be when watt is inducted into the hall of fame and is considered one of the greatest defensive linemen to ever suit up and is in the company of bruce smith, reggie white, and deacon jones

He'll be busy watching Newton & Kuechly HOF inductions & statue ceremonies outside of BOA as they replay highlights of the pair bringing multiple SB trophies to Carolina.

He won't have time to watch Watt get induced into the HOF as they replay 15 years of individual dominance in shitty trans that never win anything.

While I would take Cam over Watt simply for the need at QB....

The op is an idiot for making that fool haplo e's post the best answer.... He is a racist who does everything he can to discredit any successful white nfl player... Just look at the crap he spews about Kuechly.

You do realize that he made Haplo's post the best to shame and ridicule him for spewing the most idiotic crap seen here in days.

I'd take Andy Dalton over JJ Watt and I'm not joking. An average QB is better than a DE playing at a GOAT level. That's how important the QB position is. This shouldn't even be a debate.

Although I 100% agree with your basic assertion, I don't think I would go as low as taking Dalton over Watt.

I'm a firm believer in the saying that "you either have a QB or you don't" and Dalton is the baseline for "having a QB." It's called the Dalton Line.

    • yeah, but the actual jersey Bryce Young is wearing is not the same jersey you are buying from Fanatics.
    • i just feel like i read this he says she says poo all the time over & over again  on the internet  TV  work ,in public & then i think back to myself oh what a sick slandermongering world we live in now. ts just like those National Enquirer magazines you find in the grocery store at the checkout counter which are nothing more than complete & utter BS  & more often than not when you assume something then you make an ASS out of U & ME. so chill &  let the courts do their job & if he is guilty well he is guilty  LOL either or this has nothing at all whatsoever to do with Carolina Panthers football
    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
