Pretty good write up on Cam Newton and the lazy hot take sports media crowd

Never heard of this website, but a pretty accurate breakdown of just how much Cam has accomplished in 4 years, how he ranks with other great QBs, and how media coverage/opinions of him essentially sucks donkey dongs

Irrational remarks? Check. Neglecting of facts? Check. And, of course, a sizzling hot take? Check.

These, folks, are the easy-to-tell symptoms of Newtonsillitis. Yup, Newtonsillitis.

So what’s Newtonsillitis, you ask? Well, it’s actually an infectious oral condition that’s growing rather common in football writers, analysts and fans alike. The condition, which first surfaced around 2010, causes its sufferers to spew foolish—and often outlandish—statements regarding Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton.

The statements that develop in pertinence to Newton as a result of the condition include, but are not limited to: skewing of statistics, inconsequential assumptions of character traits, fatuous inferences of intelligence and unwarranted criticism of personal motivation.

Unfortunately, its exact origins are unknown. Some experts, in fact, believe the “Patient X” of Newtonsillitis used terms such as “fake smile” and “fraud” when referring to the quarterback upon his jump from Auburn to the National Football League.

We do know, however, that the condition is becoming more prevalent by the season. And here in late May, it seems as though another outbreak has begun.

literally two replies.

why don't the usual suspects come in here and try and argue some ish.

Many of the posters your referring to only go after low hanging fruit.

When they actually have to counter substantive arguments backed up by hard numbers and facts, many are AWOL. For example if they can't effectively counter with witty little quips like "butt-hurt", or "nut-huggers", or "jock-sniffer" it gets a little difficult for them.

I don't think I've seen anyone on here ever say Cam sucks unless I'm wrong. I don't know why this issue keeps coming back. We can win with him but he's has ways to go before he's elite. I'm hoping he starts showing that this year.

Your right. You won't see any of the fans were talking about overtly saying Cam sucks. It's done more covertly.

Like anytime someone points out an incident where they feel like Cams being disrespected, you usually see comments like "boo hoo somebody's talkung bad about my QB ". When there is attempt to compare Cam favorably with other more positive press QBs, you get the usual negative comments about being a nut-hugger and stuff like that.

There are alot of Huddlers that do not hold Cam in very high esteem, but won't come right out and say they think he "sucks".  They'd rather be passive-aggressive wussies.

I think he could make a run at the Hall of Fame and I think this year starts an extended period of team success. He has personal success. His stats for the first 4 years backs that up. But full accolades comes with personal and team success. And that starts now. Gonna be great to watch.

As I said, I think we can win with Cam but I personally will not consider him elite. I think when most people say that people think they are saying Cam sucks.

As for the media, most of them do not watch panther games so the only thing they can go off on are numbers and highlights. I used to hate on Luck but when this season started, he was leading the league in a number of QB stats and at that point I could not argue against him anymore. Cam is going to have to shut the media up and the way to do that is by winning and putting up some numbers (which he has shown he can do).

On a side note, I was watching a segment on NFL talking about making the perfect QB. For legs they went with RW cos he can scramble etc. Torso they went with Luck and arm they went with Rodgers. I thought Cam should have been one of those considering how athletic he is.

These topics are just getting old. We get it. The media is more interested in commenting than reporting. That's on us for clicking their links and watching their shows.

All of this is anecdotal though. All these players had unique situations and unique spots in the timeline of the NFL.

Bottom line is Cam is our guy. He's very good but not perfect. I wouldn't take any other QB in the league over him.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.  I only hoped because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’ll be damned.    This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair.     https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t “take” or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical “Player __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cooked” situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is.
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
