Go look for them. Are we your personal assistant?

Here you go:

11 of 13 were first down conversions.

That is a great link.  Really appreciate your taking the time to post this.

Bersin & Dickson really made the most of a small number of receptions in terms of converting for 1st downs.  Love it.  Stats are a beautiful thing.

I honesty believe that Bersin is better than Cotchery. What we need to find out is can he offer more than Hill and Philly Brown. We already know Benjamin, Ginn and Funchess are locks so the final 2-3 spots will be Cotchery, Hill, Brown and Boykin. Hill and Brown offer speed but Brown and Boykin offer special teams exp. Boykin and Cotchery offer experience.

Yeah I was thinking I could see Cotchery getting cut, would be a ballsy move but could see it happening.

Obviously Benjamin and Funchess have spots.  I think Ginn has to have a spot just because of his ability to return punts, that was a HUGE asset for us in 2013.  I think we all like Philly Brown too.  So then the coaches seem to really like Bersin too.  If we don't keep 6 wr's Cotchery has to be the odd man out

I think it would be more ballsy move to keep a worse WR. It's going to be a tough decision but as of now it looks like hill and Cotch are on the outside looking  in.

So... doing some number crunching thanks to the great link provided by a previous commenter

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/player-receiving-statistics/2014/

OK, so here's a stat that blows my mind.

Bersin led all the WRs last year in reception %. (65%)  13 catches out of 20 targets.  11 of those catches for 1st downs.  1 TD, no fumbles.   His greatest weakness as many have mentioned seems to be yards after catch.  But seriously, the stats back up his making some clutch catches.  Nice.  Among the WRs, Cotch was next at 61.5%, then Brown at 58%; Kelvin at 50%

The RBs & Greg had higher reception percentages than the WRs.  Fozzy & DeAngelo nailed a tiny number of targets (83%).  JStew (80%) & Tolbert (70%) showed great hands.  Olsen was his awesome "Mr. Reliable" self 84 catches out of 123 targets = 68% reception %.

*REALLY* hope Kelvin can pull up his reception % this year.  If he does, our offense could be very exciting!

One more comment.  Here's a very fun (but perhaps meaningless?) stat.  Was looking at the 1stDown% (# of first downs / # of receptions).

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/player-receiving-first-downs-and-first-down-percentage/2014/

When looking at all players with 10 or more receptions last year, Carolina has the top two players on the list!

1.  Ed Dickson:  9 FDs out of 10 receptions = 90%

2. Bersin:  11 FDs out of 13 receptions = 84.6%

NEXT is.... wait for it....

3. Calvin Johnson (aka Megatron)  59 FDs out of 71 receptions = 83.1%

The average FD% for all players with 10+ receptions = 53.2%

The average FD% for players with 10 - 19 receptions (like Bersin) = 49.6%

So, among players used in limited receiving roles, Bersin's ability to get the 1st down really stands out.

Here's a list of the top 30 players in terms of 1st down %:

I think his limitations really slapped people in the face, and that reality triggered a snap judgment that he sucks.  Well, he may not fit the roles he was thrust into last season, but he most DEFINITELY fits that 3d-and-5-spread-the-field-and-get-6-yards-with-a-tough-catch-over-the-middle role.  We all tried to make him something he isn't due to our lack of skill positions last year.  Now that he should fit comfortably back in his role this year, I think people will come to appreciate him more.

    • Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.
    • I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football
    • I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
