2014 Carolina Panthers: Finishing The Race

Enjoyed watching that, though of course it helps that it didn't show any of the ugliness during our losing streak!

How refreshing that I don't think I heard the name Greg Hardy mentioned once.

Of many of the highlights shown, J. Stew's clutch runs really stood out to me.  What a HUGE HUGE difference he makes to this team when healthy.  Really hoping he can stay strong this season, and also that the coaches & staff can ensure adequate depth to ensure he's got a back up.  After the disappointments of Kenjohn Barner & Tyler Gaffney, we really need CAP to become the next star RB for this team!

Don't blame Gaffney. Damn Patriots grabbed him before we could see what he could do. IMO we're much better at RB this year. CAP is at a different level than Barner and Gaffney, and I think we'll get good mileage from Fozzy and Todman.

No blame to Gaffney at all.  The "disappointment" was his being grabbed off waivers, but in any case, with his injury, he'd still be an unproven rookie this year too...  I'm excited about CAP.  He's played on a pretty big stage already and looks like he's got some great skill.  Hoping that his Auburn connection with Cam will translate into something special...

Thank you for this. I love these things. About 10 years ago the Panthers had them on their website for every season. Incidentally does anyone know where one might find older seasons? Aside from the few left on youtube.

Just NFL Network whenever they happen to be on. The NFL sucks about blacking out content constantly. I was listening to Mad Dog Radio on XM the other day, and this guy called in talking about how the MLB version of NFL Sunday Ticket was miles ahead. He said he can log in from anywhere and watch any game. He was a Braves fan, and said he can go back and watch the 1995 world series, without commercials, whenever he wants. Get it together NFL.

    • No review on the hit of Chatfield.
    • How would he get ahead of Aaron Rodgers? Rodgers is at a nearly 69% completion rate w/ 17 TDs to 5 INTs.   Comfortably ahead of Bryce in every statistical aspect of he position.  I get Rodgers is old as dirt but.....the production is pretty significantly better.
    • I hear you, the sense of anger and resentment on the Huddle is bad even by Huddle Standards... I've tried to be pretty measured on Bryce lately.  I want him to succeed.  And I do think he does some things well, and makes plays.  When he throws with anticipation, things look good.   The problem is we're not seeing Bama Bryce anymore.  We drafted Bama Bryce.  We get 5.0 YPA Bryce.  It's not exciting football.  I love the wins, so I don't care that much about how pretty things are.  The reality is fantasy football and sports gambling have overrun many people's perspectives on football and sports at large.  Most fans want to see the big plays down the field for their own excitement.  Most knowledgeable fans want to see it as a way to keep a D honest, close the door on an opponent, and just better execute good football. Remember the old Bill Belichick expression: "Stats are for losers."  I'd much rather have ugly wins than pretty losses.  But I can still enjoy a pretty loss on the HOPE that next time we'll get that bounce of luck our way.   Wins and losses are often stated as a QB stat when football is a team game.  We saw how Flacco has a career day but the Cincy D let him down.  Does that loss count against Flacco?  It shouldn't because W/L should be a Head Coach stat. As far as game winning drives as a stat, it's not overly important.  It's cool, certainly so.  It's also a team stat.  If WRs don't catch the ball, if OL don't block, etc it's a moot point anyway.  Like we had in Philly last year.  Ideally, you shouldn't be in that position at the end of the game. Now as far as Bryce himself, I want him to do well.  I want him to take the position of franchise QB instead of have it placed gently upon his head.  I just don't think he's that guy.  We'll finish this season with Bryce, and if he proves he's the guy and puts us in a winning position, great.  If not, then we bring in competition for him.  Or we trade him.
