2 years ago there were a few folks upset when we drafted a DT in the 2nd round after drafting a DT in the first.

Some said we should have addressed another need.

 

1 year ago,  there were a few folks upset when we spent our 2nd round pick on a DE when we already had Johnson and Hardy.

 

this past April, there were a few upset we traded up to get a WR in the second when we just had spent our first rounder the previous draft on a WR.

 

 

Fast forward to today...

 

KK is a beast and the middle of our DL is outstanding, probably top 5 in the league.

 

Hardy is no longer with the team, and while Ealy isn't performing as well as KK, there is still a decent chance

he turns the corner, although it may be next year, as DE's often bloom in year 3.

 

And today, if we lost KB for an extended period of time, at least we have Funchess, who probably won't have a rookie

season as good as KB, but could probably be good enough for us to make a playoff run.

 

Just sayin' I trust Getty.

I would've been happy drafting 2 WRs honestly.

Who was upset about trading up to get a WR?  Many weren't necessarily thrilled with the WR we picked, but everyone knew we still needed another starting caliber WR.

Yes. College play is extremely difficult to use as an indicator to see how good a player will be in the NFL, and many good scouts and respected talent evaluators feel Funchess wasn't worth a 2nd round pick, and certainly not everything we traded for him. I don't necessarily agree with them, but that doesn't mean they aren't intelligent. I don't think anybody was mad because we traded up for a WR, but because of what we traded and who the WR was. The thing is though, we won't know until we actually see him play in games.

Again, yes,....almost every internet review graded us down on the Funchess pick, and I'll admit even I was surprised we chose him... not necessarily that we took a WR and traded up to get him, but that it was a guy off my radar at that position, not that I'm an expert.  I wasn't  considering him a wr because Michigan switched him to TE and the draft experts called him a tweener, etc.  But he is looking good so far, and we may need him more than ever now.

Not to mention, signing turnstiles to protect our franchise QB and refusing to draft an OT early to develop. 

Gettleman gets way too much credit for the job he has done. Put our team in another division with teams that have a pulse and suddenly all the things his sycophants praise him for don't exist.
