Now That Preseason Has Concluded, What Is Your Depth Chart at RB, WR, and TE On The Current Roster?

Obviously, we can't foresee who we may bring in, as it is rumored that Gettleman is still looking for help and I'm sure plenty more options will become available following final cuts.  So, who of the current crop makes it, and at WR, who is the guy that gets the axe if we bring in someone else?  I chose these three positions because offense is obviously our weaker facet and these positions seem to be the most important, plus, I think the 53-projection threads get convoluted.  NOTE:  This is who YOU would keep, not who you think the staff will...  But, feel free to include both if you want, as it makes for good discussion.

RB: Stew, CAP, Todman, Wegher

*I like Fozzy, but I think Todman makes him replaceable and they're too similar to keep both.  Todman offers the same versatility as Fozzy with ST play, and he is faster and quicker as well, which is what Fozzy's strength was out of this group.  I'm don't think Rivera would keep Wegher over Fozzy, but this is MY thread.

 

WRs: Funch, Ginn, Bersin, Norwood, (reluctantly) Philly Brown

 

*We need help, and honestly, after the preseason he had, Philly should be the last WR on the depth chart if he is on the final roster...  But, knowing Rivera, that's not happening.  He wants Philly to succeed, and he will give him every opportunity.  Regardless of whatever happens with the guys on the current roster, we have to add another guy IMO, and my preference would be to upgrade Bersin and Brown.  Bersin is fairly reliable on offense, but he isn't going to make many big plays for you once the ball is in his hands.  I'd have no problem if we signed two potential upgrades, cut Philly, and Bersin remains as the last WR, because he has earned that.  But, I doubt that happens.  I think we keep the guys I listed and then add another WR with no plans of playing him over Bersin or Brown.  *EDIT* Like an idiot, I did it on the fly while watching and listening to the post game presser following the game and completely left out Ginn and Cotch.  Ginn may have been subconscious, because as I've said numerous times, I view him more as a returner than a receiver, but with our lack of talent at the position, he is my #2.  Cotch would be cut in my universe, but I fully expect Cotch to be a starter come Jacksonville.

 

TEs: Olsen, obvs., Williams, Dickson, LUCAS

*I don't see the staff thinking like this, but I think over the last two PS, Lucas has shown enough to merit a roster spot - IF WE'RE COMMITTED TO OUR CURRENT ROSTER PLAYERS.  I don't necessarily think Lucas has a position, as his blocking still has a ways to go, but he can definitely get open and make plays in the passing game.  I would keep him as a sort of flex/hybrid guy...  He's listed as a TE, but he is more a WR because of his weakness as an in-line blocker.  He essentially is the 6th WR until we find something better.  And honestly, Philly would still be the first guy I cut in favor of a new signee.

Can someone explain to me why Todman is the trendy pick over Fozzy? 

Fozzy is excellent in blitz pick-up and has already proven to be a nice change-of-pace back in our system. I guess Todman is the new shiny toy.  

Todman is Fozzy plus long speed. I'm a Fozzy fan, but he and Todman are too similar and Todman wins out in ability and potential.

Stew and CAP are both locks. Todman's performance plus his ST ability makes him a near-lock IMO. I would like to see us go with Wegher over Fozzy, but I highly doubt they take an unknown in Wegher over a known commodity in the Foz. 

 

WR: Cotchery, Ginn, Funchess, Philly Brown, Bersin, Norwood

Cotchery, Ginn, Funchess are all locks. Brown is almost assuredly a lock despite his struggles this preseason; should he struggle in the early season, perhaps they would look elsewhere for WR talent. Bersin has played solidly all preseason and has strong chemistry with Cam, and despite the near-irrational hate for him on the huddle, I can't see them letting him go. Norwood will most likely make the team over other unproven players like Byrd and Mike Brown. Personally, I think they keep these 6, and I am fine with that.

 

TE: Olsen (duh), Dickson, Lucas

Olsen is a lock. Dickson is a lock with his new contract and his skill as a blocker and receiver. I really like what I have seen from Lucas, and I think they keep him around as a TE/WR. Williams has not been on the field enough to warrant a roster spot (though I would like to see him put it together in a year or two). Simonson is sure-handed, but lacks in blocking ability.

What I *think* will ultimately happen:

RB: Stew, CAP, Todman, Fozzy

WR: Funchess, Cotchery, Ginn, Brown, Norwood, Bersin

TE: Olsen, Dickson, Williams

 

I'd prefer Wegher to Fozzy, but given our WR woes, I believe Rivera will keep a known quantity in Fozzy to Wegher because he will need to lean on his backs for production in both the run and pass game.

      Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.

      No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.

      Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
