Good read from Max Henson on Panthers.com

I found this snippet about Wegher most interesting.

"You have to think long term as well as short term," Gettleman said. "That’s really what it was. We feel that Brandon has got a chance to be a really good back.

I said it a few days ago and got a ribbing for it, but next season the Artis-Payne / Wegher combo is the new double trouble.... and will be more effective than the old one was in many seasons.

It appears Gettleman sees the obvious. Running games are built with an offensive line first followed by good scouting for later round runners.

But... but... Gettleman did nothing in our offseason to improve our OLine.  Oher are you kidding me?  And some 3rd round rookie and those no name guys off the street from last year.  Obviously G'man has no clue how to scout OLine talent.

[sarcasm]

It's certainly a possibility that the team looks to move on from Stewart if his play doesn't match his contract, or he gets hurt again. But if Stewart can stay healthy, he should have a few more productive years left in him. He's still only twenty eight. With him and Artis-Payne as our one-two punch, we have an exciting pairing going forwards.

Wegher has shown promise in preseason, but he first has to prove himself in regular season when he gets his opportunities. If he takes them, maybe he carves out a bigger role for himself, but it will be difficult to see him surpass Artis-Payne and Stewart unless one of them struggle.

I love your enthusiam but the talent level is compeltey different between the two, people will realize how valuable Stewart will be once the season gets rolling.

At their peak and when healthy Double Trouble was one of the best RB tandems in NFL history. CAP and Wegher may be a great tandem but they aren't as talented. Let's go easy on the hyperbole

If only they were half as good as the legend that surrounds them today!

It was one season and really just half that season in 2008. They were good no doubt, but time removed has inflated the greatness dramatically

Thank you for paying attention.

The myth is so much greater than the reality ever was. Deangelo wasn't worth much for the past few seasons and Stew was often injured.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
