Vick will attend Week One game as spectator

Posted by Mike Florio on September 9, 2009 4:35 PM ET

When the Eagles played their first preseason game with Mike Vick on the roster, we reported that Vick wasn't taken to Indianapolis because the team didn't want to expose Vick to a potentially hostile reaction in another team's venue.

We were shouted down by folks who claimed that Vick was staying home simply because it's coach Andy Reid's longstanding policy to not bring to road games players who aren't eligible to play in the game.

So, of course, for the team's first regular-season road game, Vick will be traveling to Carolina, despite the fact that he's not allowed to play in the game. And despite Reid's hard and fast, no exceptions rule.

"Michael will travel this week," coach Andy Reid said Wednesday. "Michael will travel."

Since he's suspended for the first two games of the season, Vick won't be permitted to join the team on the sidelines.

In our view, Vick is making the trip to Charlotte primarily because the reaction to him hasn't been nearly as negative as many thought it would be. And if the Eagles believed in August that the reaction to him wouldn't have been negative in Indianapolis, Vick would have been there, too.

Regardless of Reid's rule.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. flame away

No one in the stadium will even see him, and neither will anyone at home, unless they put him on TV in whichever box he's sitting in.

you better believe that cameras are going to be on the look out for him and when he is it's gonna show up on the screen.

someone is going to find him.

in olden times you would just look for the only guy in the owners box wearing a doo rag, but apparently he's changed his ways.

I'm really happy they've let him back in the leauge and given him a second chance, i really hope the fans find him and give him a good heckling (hopefully they're not led out of the stadium!).

    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
    • Definitely epic tv..... A man who wont cheat for a poke dont want one bad enough.
