IF... we would have simply 'Cut' peppers.

We would have a veteren replacement for him at DE, a veteren at DT, Brian Dawkins at FS allowing Godfrey 2 or 3 years to acclimate better to the position, a beast of a up and coming rookie replacement for him at DE in Everette Brown, and a punt returner....

I think that sounds like a more complete #1 Beason- #2 Dawkins - #3 Chris Harris defensive team than a #1 Julius Peppers -#2 Beason - #3 Chris Harris defensive team.

Can you imagine having had Dawkins co-leading our defense and coming out on gamedays for the next 2 or 3 seasons?

EDIT: Not even nessasarily Dawkins, and also i should have said "not re-signed" in the title instead of "cut"

I heard this rumor that Free Agents are actually people that make their own decisions and just because you have cap space doesn't automatically mean they'll sign with you.

But then again, I'm sure they would have been lining up to jump on board after our triumphant playoff run last season.

OR if he would have signed the tender, then we could have discussed trade options, or extended him. then signed free agents

Yea, or that. as it stands I can't believe he is a captain seeing as how he soley f**ked teh depth of our Defense.

Brady takes a paycut to win more super bowls...

Peppers makes so much he constricts his team efforts to even help him on the defensive line.

What veteran replacement at DE would we have had a shot at?

And are you aware that Philadelphia schemed with an eye towards masking Dawkins' deficiencies in coverage? If we wanted to find an older, slow guy with leadership who can hit hard, why not get Derrick Brooks and covert him? He would be just as effective.

I'm just curious...

Or if he wouldn't have been so quick to react to the Panther's loss...

i cant believe we sacrificed the well-being of the team for one guy. I know some people on the team were pissed. he better bring it this season after the fiasco he put the team through. if there isn't a salary cap then FA's get cut in half. and that includes Peppers. 3 tags, and RAs get extended 2 or 3 years.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. All of this is speculation and completely unfounded. These kind of discussions are useless and rehash what we have debated all spring and summer. No one knows what would have happened if we would have taken a different path and frankly can't accurately predict anything.

Now is the time to see what happens and how he plays. There will be plenty of time for congratulations or recriminations based on the results of the defense and his production.

I am ready for some football!!!!

Yeah 'cause you know more than Peppers' teammates that work with him every day. Please

I love Brian Dawkins, and they say hindsight is 20/20, but your scenario sounds a lot like wishful thinking. Name the veteran DE we could have signed and the veteran DT available AFTER Kemo went down as well as the punt returner who was also available. You have hindsight on your side, so at least name the players who would have been available.

    • All good solids points. I think after the RB and LB, is kicker the next spot among "Legacy" panther spot?? Kasay, gano, butkler, Eddie(best all-time %), Slye, Lloyd the touch back god, Mare, lols.....  Fitz...*right now* feels a combo of all the best panther ones. With the new rules, Fitz is either first or second in starting field position form KOs. He's a weapon and ten yards do matter.
    • "Plays well" vs "near historic performance" are pretty different things. It's important to keep in mind the Cowboys passing defense is league worst and their run defense is nearly so, for sure. But one of those two players vastly outperformed what most other players have done versus the Cowboys and the other had fewer yards than typical (but still played very well imo, and did all we needed him to). Rico pretty much doubled up virtually every other single back that has played the Cowboys.  So yeah I get why people would be surprised that Rico is so far down the list of O players.
    • Trevin and Rozeboom remind me (obviously at a smaller scale) of when they had Beason as the mic and Luke beside him. Luke looked very average and was out of position a lot until he swapped to mic. REALLY hoping this is another case of that. Just on eye test alone that swap has been a night and day difference.
