Could J-No be DPOY? Cornerbacks don't often win...

Sure, it's only week 4, but Josh Norman is on the early short list of DPOY candidates with his 4 interceptions & 2 pick6 TDs.

Scott Fowler has a very nice column at the Observer looking more closely at the history of DPOY selections and what it might take for J-NO to win it, given that cornerbacks haven't won that award very often.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/scott-fowler/article38443656.html

Here's an excerpt:

Norman leads the NFL with four interceptions through four games. But this award seems a little skewed against cornerbacks. The only corner who has won it over the past 10 years was Charles Woodson in 2009, when he played for Green Bay and had nine interceptions (three of which he returned for TDs). And the last cornerback to win before that was Deion Sanders in 1994.

In the past 10 years, four linebackers have won the award, three defensive ends, two safeties and only one cornerback. For Norman to get the votes – and the award is picked by a nationwide media panel of people who regularly cover the NFL – I think he will need to have a big game that includes a pick against someone like Aaron Rodgers (Nov. 8) or Andrew Luck (Nov. 2). And he will have to have at least 10 total interceptions.

Doug Evans set the Panthers’ single-season record for interceptions with eight in 2001 – the year Carolina went 1-15. Josh Norman needs five interceptions over his final 12 games to break Evans’ record.

Only CB to shutdown Hopkins so far this year. Shut down Robinson. Shutdown Evans. Will shutdown Julio-twice. I'm feeling it boys. Going to be not only a DPOY-worthy year from Josh, but one of the best year's by any CB in the history of the league. Damn I hope we can keep him.

wasn't he on Jackson a lot of the Tampa game? One read jameis shut down evans.  Josh is in the running if he keeps this up.  He basically won the games against Jacksonville and New Orleans and demoralized Tampa early.  I hope we're watching a ton of film on chuck and duck Wilson and he picks off three or four of those throws he lays up that his wrs always seem to come down with.

He played on both and shut down both aside from that one 30 yarder that Jackson got.
