Oh, How Things Have Changed.

I usually do not post things like this, but wanted to share.  I was on Facebook today, and looking at the "on this day" app when I noticed a post I made 2 years ago today.  The post read:

It has been 4 years, 9 months, and 26 days since the Panthers have had a winning record. This could all change on Thursday! For the first time in my son's life, the Panthers might be over 500!!!!!!!

After that Thursday, the Panthers would go on to win 9 of their next 10 games, and make the playoffs.  The following season, they would again return to the playoffs.  This year, we are 5-0.  Not to mention, the Panthers have the longest active win streak in the NFL.

We have put together a great system here in Carolina.  Gettleman-Rivera-McDermott, hell, even Shula. So excited about the direction this team is going.

Stomping the Bucs on that Thursday game to get over .500 was pretty memorable, that whole season really. This season so far has reminded me of 2013, except without the putrid start.

People here underestimate the power of continuity and to a lesser extent, program culture.

 

I never felt under Fox that we had a strong program culture starting from the staff and making their way down. 

 

Rivera, Richardson, and now Gettleman; they've been trying to instill a culture for a few years now, and it's starting to pay dividends.  All the best football clubs have longstanding cultures that outlast the careers of players, and I finally feel like we're starting to establish that here.

I'd flip those, as continuity of mediocrity will only yield more mediocrity. Gotta get the right program in place first, then carry it from year to year.
