Gil Brandt has lost his damn mind

When you're pecking away at your keyboard,  you don't have to worry about trivialities like team chemistry and players buying into a system. Anyone doubt we have that going for us right now? Didn't think so.

How about our results? Anyone have a problem with that? Back to back division titles, the longest current reg season win streak, scoring 27 a game given our talent, etc.

I know all the cool kids are supposed to hate Shula. This is just a reminder to be careful what you wish for.

Its really all about who would be there in his place... How can you guarantee it without knowing who would be there?

Unless you think he is the best OC in the NFL.....

He's here to do a job, and follow a gameplan that allows our defence to make plays and close out games, which is what he does and has managed to do admirably with a developing QB and very little investment in receivers, RBs or O Line.

You tell me who you think has done a better job with less. Apart from the Pats I don't know if I can answer that.

We don't all remember him the same.

Some seem to remember him as the greatest offensive mind in the history of the Panthers.

The narrative about Chud around here is strange at best. Few remember how bad he was in 2012, and I never got the "he's just auditioning for a HC job instead of trying to win!" I don't understand how sucking and losing gets you a HC job, but what do I know. It worked.

Can't really separate Cam and Shula right now.  In the past it was easy to bag on Shula, but Cam has such a huge part in running the offense now, I don't know that it is fair/possible to separate them and blame Shula for whatever issues you have with our O right now.  OTOH, the trust between Cam and Shula has allowed Cam to play extremely well this year, and I'm not sure that would exist had he been fired like some of us wanted.

Anyway, Id not be surprised if he got some looks if we continue to play well, but I don't know that he would work well as a HC.

he was trying all kinds of crazy poo and running weird experimental formations etc, rather than (at least according to some huddle fans) doing what would work.  TBH, I don't remember 2012's plays well enough to say whether Chud's sucking was just him sucking or him being "experimental."

I see what you're saying. I just never figured anyone would hire a "mad scientist" if his experiments didn't work. (2012 was him going zone read crazy.)

Someone posted in another thread that Greg Cosell was quoted saying that Shula had the most intricate run plays in the NFL. That carries some weight as Cosell knows his poo. As a running team, that bodes well for us if  our run blocking comes together. Our running game usually heats up around this time of year. Look out! J Stew is going to go for over 100 Sunday night!

Yeah I've noticed that he knows a lot of slow developing ways to send rbs up the gut for no gain.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
