Steve Smith's son thinks we should make a trade for a certain WR before the deadline

All signs say this is one of those that's not.

Keeping that contract on a 1-5 bottom feeder team is such a bad move, especially when he has value...maybe smitty won't be in carolina but he should be elsewhere by the deadline.

Ravens are done and I'd be Ok with overpaying a bit for a guy who's going to sign the one day contract to retire here anyway.

All the BS aside. 89 is a panther for life and he could help get us a super bowl THIS YEAR, while getting the ravens some picks or players to help them rebuild in another conference. It seems to work for all parties except butt hurt panther fans and butt hurt steve smith, so basically children

I'm afraid his Instagram says otherwise.

Smith has never been one to say stuff he doesn't mean. And what he said there he said pretty strongly.

He's not coming back. At this point, I wouldn't even bank on the one day contract retirement.

Seems to me like he hates our team and our fanbase. I am fully expecting him to retire a raven now.

i would hope the ravens future would outweigh steve smiths instagram.  Oherwise ozzie newsome/gettleman needs to find a beter job/hobby, because that contract needs to be moved ASAP.

if gettlemagic can get a jared allen deal for a pick smitty could put us over the top

Ravens brass doesn't see their season as over after six or seven games. No professional team worth anything would. They'll keep fighting, same as we did back in 2004 (and for that matter, just last season).

It was already reported that they're actually hoping Smith changes his mind about retirement and plays for them again next year. Hence, they're not interested in trading him this year. And given what the rest of their receiving corps looks like, no reason they should be.

Plus, as has been discussed already in this thread, we're not trading away anything for a guy who's only gonna play a partial season. Nor should we.

Bottom Line:  Whatever we win or lose this year will be done without Steve Smith. Many people think that's for the best, including the guy who makes these decisions.

It doesn't matter how you spin it in your head, dude. It isn't happening.

Eh, I think he hates the fact people are pitying him and wanting him to quit on his teammates to go back to a team whose GM showed him the door and said he couldn't play anymore.

    • I think Chuba is better in pass pro. I think Chuba does a better job setting up blockers, while Dowdle tends to just want to juke or outrun defenders. He has more big play potential, but probably won't get you the consistent numbers. He'll get you in more 3rd and long situations. Now I'm actually excited to see Etienne get more burn. That kid has big play ability written all over him. And he is NOT a punt returner.
    • Maybe had you put it that way instead of dismissing the guy as a ‘radio’ I wouldn’t have pushed back. I get that. At the same time, he knows the team, he is brilliant at film diagnosis, highly disciplined and would have the instant respect of any and all players in that locker room. Coaches too probably. It is hard to overstate how good he was and that includes the mental side.  I wouldn’t bet against him. Give him a couple of seasons to get the job down.  I shouldn’t say every, but I bet it is every… OC or DC that got a HC gig has said they weren’t ready for everything that goes with being a HC. Totally different than the job they had been doing, because now they have to deal with everything and they didn’t even know what that was when they started.  edit: I guess a point I am trying to make with him is, you can work your way up through jobs but when you get promoted the job is not just a higher level of the job you were doing, it is a different job requiring new skills.  The failed HC ranks are full of great coordinators for that very reason.  I resist the dogma of you can’t be good at that unless you were good at LB coach or DC.  To me, Wilks wasn’t a real good DC but he somehow understood that HC job intuitively.
