Good write-up on our multi-faceted run attack

Reading that article makes me wonder.

How many times did we see Byron Bell standing up looking like he didn't know what was going on?

Left tackle is a relatively cerebral position on the offensive line, arguably second only to the center. And per Cosell's statement, the Panthers are running a complex system.

Maybe Bell's issues revolved around the mental side of the game.

Perhaps Bell did okay in individual and basic practice drills where it was a simple one on one confrontation but struggled when he was put in the position of needing to make split second decisions.

Could explain why Tennessee kicked him inside. And they may not run as many concepts.

I have not said Shula is the worst OC because of his play designs .... Its because of his timing of certain playcalls and then the head scratching playcall.

But as I said in an earlier post ... I am eatting crow, Shula has really done a great job on timing with his playcalls, and I have yet to say this year in a game ..... "What the hell is Shula doing"

contrary to popular belief, A LOT of last season's offensive miscues and wtf moments were due to lack of execution and not the calls or timing of the calls themselves.

I'm just gonna echo Igo here and say:

"Cam is doing some wonderful things."

You guys can support Shula... until he pulls another 3rd & inches hail mary or a bubble screen to Bersin or a dump off on 4th & 15 or etc etc etc.

You do realize that those long throws on 3rd and short are Cam's decisions, right? He ALWAYS has the option of either running or going underneath for the short pass. Also, when was the last time you saw Bersin on a bubble screen?

On a side note...I remember some knucklehead trying to convince me that Shula was calling the same plays in the pre season that he calls in the real games....not even close.

Man, what a great article, and it really shows what's happening in our offense. Have we been harsh on Shula?  Yep, but I feel like it was warranted.  I love football, but I don't know near as much as many of you, or the national media.  So my opinion should be weighted as such!

Greg Cosell is a pretty respected NFL journalist.  The concepts that he was dissecting there were pretty amazing.  So Shula ball is to run you to death.  I think we've all gotten to the point that we're fine with that!

This article also showed how completely insanely lucky we are to have Cam.  That throw to Ginn, where he just stopped and side armed some sandlot BS was kind of amazing, when you look at it from the endzone perspective.  I forgot about that one in the game.

What a great time to be a Panther fan.  Really great find!

You can argue its effectiveness and that is a legitimate debate. However, When people talk about it being too simple they are talking out of their ass. What do they know about the subject? It's a matter of one person saying it and it getting repeated over and over. These are the same people standing and screaming when we are going for it on 4th down at home or yelling Luuuuuuke when its Klein.

i'd like to see more break downs like this.

i can remember when the entire seattle secondary (before they became the legion of what the hell?) praised the carolina's playcalling on passing downs because it kept them confused and guessing.

The Legion of Oops?

    • I thought this presented an interesting point. It is fair to wonder now, about switching the two QBs as so many tried to do that first year where Bryce was trash and CJ looked great.  It is almost the reverse scenario now and I wonder what CJ would look like here with better weapons better coaching and better protection. Overall, compared year one.  If each player had been in the other place for the three years. I would love to see CJ with this team now.  Just to see.
    • I really have no clue what to expect sunday.  To quote one of my favorite bands of all time, Operation Ivy "All I know is that I dont know".  We could win, hell we could win convincingly, we also could lose in blowout fashion.  We could be in a back and forth game with whoever has the ball last winning.  I legit HAVE NO CLUE.  This isnt the dominant bills teams of the past, Allen is still elite and can win any game by himself.  That said, heres my stab at looking at things. Our defense is made to stop this kind of team.  Strong against the run, a great corner but meh talent around the field.  We've stopped prolific run offenses this season.   Javonte Williams - Season low yards and ypa against us. De'Von Achane - Season low yards and ypa against us Breece hall - 3rd worst yards in a game Fact of the matter is, we arent what we were last year, we are a good run defense and that lines up well against the bills, Stop the run.  For once the lack of moving Jaycee might be a good thing, he will essentially lock down a side and without multiple real weapons thats fine.  Buffalo does not have an elite guy, theyve got a gaggle of average dudes.  Allen will stay away from Jaycee, it will be on Mike Jack and Chau Smith Wade do to their part and they will be matched with guys they can play at the level of. On offense, we do what the bills are bad at.  We run the ball well, and they suck at stopping the run.  Rico and Chuba will need 30 carries.  Andy Dalton will need to be opportunistic.  My big fear is what we learned last year, Dalton can get overconfident and make bonehead throws.  Its this simple.  Run the ball, stop the run.  Dont turn the ball over.  If we do these 3 things, we will be in a position to win in the 4th quarter.
    • This makes me wish we took a flyer on Quinn Ewers late in the draft
