So much for needing Kelvin Benjamin ... Cam Newton, who threw a career-high five touchdown passes Sunday, is at least co-MVP with Tom Brady among writers, analysts and, most importantly, the concerned mothers of Nashville. On that note, kudos to the one who wrote into The Charlotte Observer about Newton's post-TD antics last week, and even more kudos to Newton for responding to something he technically didn't have to. Often, Newton has been subjected to different standards than other QBs around the league. Now people are recognizing No. 1 as much for his leadership as his rare talent.

Already getting lobbied to place the Panthers over the Patriots. The reason? Carolina's blowout win over the Redskins coupled with New England's close call versus the Bills. What's ironic about this argument is that Bill Belichick's group won in the same fashion Monday night that Carolina has prevailed much of this year. Think about the Panthers one-score wins: over the Texans, Saints,Seahawks, Colts and Packers. Sure, there are fine football teams in that group, but it's not as though the Panthers have sprinted through their schedule. Oh, and by the way, these are theSuper Bowl champs. 

Side note: Danny Amendola's injury is a rather large concern.

 

Outside of "reigning super bowl champs", the entire thing is just an explanation why the Panthers aren't #1, not why the Patriots are. Interesting, eh?

The Patriots are the #1 team as long as they are undefeated, really no question there.

Like he said in the Power Rankings, they're the champs.  They haven't lost a game.  Doesn't matter how they've looked, they've won big, they've won ugly.  So have the Panthers.  We're the new kids on the block compared to them.  Gotta earn it.

Because they have yet to lose.  Thus how can a team that has had equally unimpressive victories surpass them?

This is the 2015 rankings not the 2014 rankings what they did last year should have jack to do with it.  If one of the undefeated teams now looks better than the other, then they should be #1, anything else is just play it safe cowardice.

Yea...giving respect to a franchise that has won 10 or more games for 13 straight seasons is "cowardice"

This is the power rankings not the legacy rankings.

 

I wonder if the huddle will feel this way when every analyst in the playoffs picks teams with worse records to reach the superbowl over usl

pft rankings are pretty much the same but some pretty funny/snarky comments on other teams that got my attention.

1. Patriots (10-0; last week No. 1): Unlike 2007, they’re not routinely blowing people out. Like 2007, they’re winning every single game.

2. Panthers (10-0; No. 2): Never before has a 10-0 team been taken less seriously.

**17. Falcons (6-4; No. 13): When is it fair to ask whether Matt Ryan is a top 25 quarterback?

19. Cowboys (3-7; No. 30): For the Cowboys, the playoffs officially start on Thursday.

25. Washington (4-6; No. 21): Maybe they should fire their defensive coordinator and hire Rob Ryan.

26. Eagles (4-6; No. 22): Chip Kelly’s approach to acquiring NFL quarterbacks apparently was inspired by the inscription on the Statue of Liberty.

**27. Saints (4-6; No. 24): The Saints defense is so bad that the bye still scored 25 points against it.

I might agree if the legacy was from 10 years or more ago.  But the Patriots won the Superbowl last year with pretty much the same team they have now.  They will be number one in the rankings until someone beats them.  Preferably us in the Superbowl in the first SB battle of unbeatens. 

 

Not that I really care that much anyway.  These polls are interesting to discuss on message boards, but beyond that, they are meaningless.

      So we cut him if we don't give him the option?  I'm pretty sure there are players who didn't get the 5th-year option that played year four of their rookie contracts with their draft team.

      I didn't say do nothing if we don't draft one in the 1st and I"m not counting on a FA to magically become a franchise QB. But signing a FA to be our starter for the year and then re-address the next offseason would be FAR better than reaching on the wrong QB in the 1st this offseason. Feeling we HAVE to find our long term solution just because we need a new QB is how we got into this mess.  We thought Two Gloves would be at worst an average level QB for a few years, that didn't happen, so we went out and traded for Darnold.  That didn't work so we went out and traded for Baker, that didn't work so we went out and traded up to get Bryce. Our last 4 QB moves were all trying to force a solution, none of them worked out, and we're still trying to find Cam's replacement all these years later.  We'd just have been better off spending a year or two building up the rest of the team and going year to year on FA QB's while doing so.  I get it, it will be frustrating to deal with, but then when you find that actual long term solution, they plug right into an already built out roster and you're ready to contend immediately.

      Great win, should be 3-0 but I'll take 2-1. LaMelo is an MVP caliber player, period.   This is looking like an incredible draft so far. Sion James looking like the exact type of role player that all contending teams need to have, absolute steal in the 2nd. Kalk is a work in progress and I question how much upside he has but he's already been a considerable upgrade at C for us compared to the last several years (outside of healthy Mark which of course was rare).   Really seems like new ownership/front office has change the culture here significantly. Every guy looks bought in now.
