Drops So Far...

All I've been hearing about the past two weeks when looking at Pats coverage of their losses is how they would've won if Brady's receivers didn't drop passes... Well if we take a look at the numbers...

Point is Cam's had receivers drop passes more often all season and we didn't lose because of it, nor would we have used it as an excuse.

The NFL revolves around the patriots being a good team. So the narrative has to give reasons why they are as good as their record. The Panthers are the worst 12-0 team ever, fits anything you want to say about them.

Hey, we WERE #1 (worst) during the early weeks of the season... so 5 is an improvement!

I've somehow now got the theme song to "the Jeffersons" in my brain, though changed to "We're movin' on down...."

Different sites calculate drops differently.  It's not an official NFL stat.

Sporting Charts (where the data above is from) has less drops counted per team than some other sites (like PFF - though I don't have access to PFF's premium stats, so I don't know their current totals for the Panthers).

At one point in a thread about Funchess we were comparing the number of drops counted against him.  Sporting Charts counted 2 or 3 fewer drops for him than one or two other sites.

Sporting charts is far too generous with what they don't label drops then.

Yeah I think there is at least double that number to be fair. Ginn probably has 10 by himself, all would be TDs lol.   Also a ball that should be caught isn't always a drop to some sites, but we've seen a lot of those.

Ginn kind of skews the numbers a bit.  Funchess and Olsen have a few drops.  Although in Olsen's case he is targeted a lot so I expect a few drops.  Cotchery and Brown never drop the ball, although Brown seems to have trouble getting open, or when he does get open, they miss him.

Yeah, I don't know what criteria they are using to define a "drop", but the Panthers receivers have damn well dropped more than 17 this year.
