McDermott to Philly speculation already starting

Possible Candidates to replace Chip Kelly

Lurie is very familiar with McDermott from his time in Philadelphia. McDermott spent 12 years with the Eagles but got a raw deal in his stint as defensive coordinator. He learned under Jim Johnson but wasn't able to immediately duplicate his predecessor's success and was fired. That said, he immediately landed in Carolina under Ron Rivera, another member of the Andy Reid coaching tree.

Now, in his fifth season as Carolina's defensive coordinator, McDermott has turned the Panthers' defense into championship unit. It's been some time since the Eagles had one of those.

Before being let go, McDermott had a long career with the Eagles and was well liked.

Now that he's had time to build a resume' elsewhere, a 'homecoming' of sorts seems like a very viable option.

I may be in the minority, but McDermott going to Philly may turn out to be a blessing. I'm not gonna knock the work he has done, but truthfully, I would love to see Gettleman operate at finding a coordinator. I think Singletary could make our D better

Gettlemen doesn't choose coordinators, Rivera does. Wilks is already on the roster.

Singletary, dear God no.

It's generally accepted that Steve Wilks gets the DC job if McDermott goes.

Wilks was Rivera's first choice but the Chargers wouldn't give permission to interview him.

Here's a scenario that won't make me popular, but is a real possibility.

McDermott gets hired as Eagles head coach, and asks Ricky Proehl to be his offensive coordinator.

The Panthers could block it if Proehl is under contract, but nobody has any info on the contract status of coaches.

If he gets the offer I hope he's still pissed about getting canned and sticks around another year. HC offers don't happen too often though, and he was there a long time, so realistically I don't see him turning the job down.

Another potential reason I selfishly hope they offer someone else.

Did they not watch the last two games?  I'm not that worried.  I think Rivera has his hand in the defense enough to where this wouldn't be huge.

And I doubt Proehl is going anywhere.  Outside of this message board no one else thinks he's that amazing.

Wilks has good experience. He was a College defensive coordinator and even head coach for a year, I'd feel good about promoting him. Offense would be my concern. If Shula were to leave, neither Dorsey or Proehl have coaching experience other than with the Panthers. Not saying they couldn't be successful but no experience calling plays and under a defensive coach like Rivera. Would we go outside the organization and risk bigger changes? I do think the consistency has benefited Cam.

Don't know McDermott would go to Philly after how they screwed him over before. Plus given the recent firing of Kelly after only a few years would make me wonder if I would be given the time to turn everything around. They might want him but I wouldn't be too excited to take that job.

    • Winning games and be a +500 team are good. But the goal is to win Super Bowl.  Chiefs had Alex Smith, went to playoff twice and still replaced him.   BY as of now: - To many fumbles - Completion in the intermediate range is just far below acceptable - Not enough of a deep throw threat....   The stats you try use is deceiving.  Catchable......  That is an opinion. Show me the completion %. And also, how does BY compare to other QBs using the stats you cited. Oh... ranked at 27
    • Your intelligence is artificial.
    • The Entitlement Paradox: When Winning Isn't Enough for Panther fans.    Just the other season(s) we were praying for wins by any means. Brought in every run of the mill QB you could think of.  We know all sides of the ball was bad like egregious bad. However some how we have won 5 games and TOXIC ENTITLEMENT has emerged.    We are a team that has to take wins by anymeans nothing has changed. Keep pounding means it aint gonna be perfect!!    Some panther fans have now developed a toxic entitlement where even victories feel insufficient, demanding flawless performance, or perfection, which stems from historical success in which we dont have any lol. This mindset poisons communities by fostering relentless criticism, harassment, and ingratitude that undermine team morale and alienate casual supporters. For the new Carolina Panthers, this could manifest as fans booing Bryce Young after gritty wins for low passing yards despite low turnovers, pressuring tepper into premature changes mid-rebuild, or driving away talent through online abuse!! eroding the positive momentum from their recent 4-game streak has brought us. Trust and believe the players do see your toxicity.    Anyways here are some positive stats.      Most Accurate QB on... 20+ Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (79.2%) 2. Sam Darnold (79.2%) 3. Bryce Young (75.0%) 10-19 Yard Throws 1. Jaxson Dart (88.0%) 2. Jayden Daniels (82.9%) 3. Drake Maye (80.7%) 0-9 Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (92.9%) 2. Spencer Rattler (92.6%) 3. Bryce Young (91.7%) @FantasyPtsData
