MVP Award - It's Special

Carolina is currently one of ten teams to have never had a player win MVP. 

Those teams:

Cardinals, Jets, Falcons, Saints, Chiefs, Bucs, Panthers, Jaguars, Ravens, Texans. (Not a lot of historically great teams there.)

Teams with just one MVP award?

Bears, Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers, Dolphins, Seahawks, Lions, Chargers. (Fifteen Super Bowls by my count. Some historically great teams.)

Not telling any tales out of school here, but truly special players win MVP. You can't fake it. The majority of QBs who have won MVP have also won a Super Bowl at some point. I hope everyone really appreciates just how important and special winning this award would be for Cam and the franchise.

I think a lot of folks need to stop and think about all the heisman greats that were also great at the next level and still never won one.

What also would be special is that Cam would be the first black QB to win the award outright without having to share it like Steve McNair had to do with Peyton Manning in 2003.

Cam is expected to nearly sweep the 50 MVP votes.

 

For perspective, no Panther has ever received one MVP vote.

Also, Cam will be one of the youngest quarterbacks to ever win MVP.  Only Marino and Bert Jones were younger.  Same age as Favre and Unitas when they won their first.

Yeah, I think he forgot about the National Championship part of that stat. Cam would be the first QB to win the heisman, college national championship and NFL MVP. Carson Palmer also has a shot to be the first if that somehow happens.

Staubach never won the AP NFL MVP. He won the Sporting News MVP once.
