Great background piece on Cam, from the shoes to his end-zone Sunday Giveaways, to Auburn, to Warren Moon; the Foxtails, etc..

If Cam was a bank teller, on a wall somewhere in that bank he'd be employee of the month for March, April, May -- something weird would have happened in June, and he'd be back on the wall for July. It wouldn't be about the recognition or the awards, it would be, 'I'm going to be the most outstanding person in this bank, and this bank is going to be the best bank in the neighborhood."

 

I want to know what that something weird thing would have been.

He got food poison while volunteering at a local soup kitchen.  He missed 2 weeks of work and was therefore ineligible for the employee of the month award.

That may well be the best article I've ever read about Cam. Holy crap... gotta bookmark that for rereading later. There were so many great points and quotes. But the thing that stood out to me the most was the depth. This writer took his time and gave Cam due diligence. It's not some typical ESPN hottake. I'm actually surprised it wasn't made an Insider story. 

Random acts of journalism still happen I guess... lol.

I really enjoyed reading this article. It's a shame that black quarterbacks get stereotyped. I never understood all of the backlash Cam received when he entered the draft. The guy was a Heisman winning quarterback coming off of an undefeated season in which he won the national championship.It's ridiculous.

Here are some of the quotes I found interesting:

Cam's dad is right about these morons timing his celebrations. Get a life you weirdos!

However,  writer used a bit of hyperbole regarding Jamarcus Russell changing NFL rookie Contracts.

There's a whole nother story that needs to be told (though it has) regarding the relationship between Cam, Moon, Luck, and George Whitfield.

For example. Oliver Luck was the back up to Warren Moon in Houston. Moon was chosen as a mentor for Cam. So he chose little known George Whitfield as a QB coach. So Cam used George Whitfield. And Luck used George Whitfield as well, as/from a recommendation by Warren Moon to his father. Many in the media don't know, or suppress that connection, affiliation.

Gotta keep Luck, the Stand Alone Golden Boy, you know.

Moon's, also a Seattle Seahawks broadcaster. And when asked several years ago (at least one time I heard him) in 2012, who would be the best between Luck and Cam; Moon said Cam.

He wasn't even considering Wilson at the time. So he knew then (while he's critical of Cam in other areas, so you know he wasn't being a homer).

And to your quotes above: The article mentioned how NFL scouts found nothing negative on Cam. That's true. I read a few of those myself (real scouting reports or summaries, not Faux Draftniks/media people who like to go on television), and everyone gave him glowing personal accounts as a leader, hard worker, and good guy. So folks like Nolan N, and Mike Mayock , were being incredibly irresponsible with their statements FWIW.

Guys like Nolan Nawrocki and others were running a smear campaign against Cam.

Fantastic article. I particularly liked the bit about Warren Moon not having a pro day and the part about Cam getting dressed up for his "interview". Really great read on Cam and everyone should read it.

As for the Bradford contract and the JaMarcus Russell debacle...sure Bradford was the last one before the they changed the rookie wage scale but that doesn't mean he was the only driving force. I think the Russell bit...paying that guy so much and getting so little...was also a huge factor. Paying a rookie like Bradford $50 Million and knowing that you might get a JaMarcus Russell made the change inevitable.

Yeah. I noticed it right away.

It was a decent article (I Know we usually expect hit jobs when Cam's involved).

I've read better. Though I felt the author presented some good facts and conversations. He also tried to play up the "black QB" angle a bit. So he took some liberties-such as this- (IMO) in order to be "edgy", and play up the controversial angle with Cam.

So why make Jamarcus the scapegoat for Rookie Contracts (as a Black QB), instead of Sam Bradford who was the last straw. Obviously, if Jamarcus Russell was the guy, they would have changed the structure after him.

Now, saying Jamarcus may have made some NFL teams more leery regarding drafting black QB's high or #1 may have had more merit. But his statement about the Rookie contracts was just a flat out lie.

So you actually ending doing black QB's more of a disservice with that type of statement, instead of helping the( an an article like this may pretend to shed light on a situation).
