Kid fans and the Carolina Panthers

Fan01

Recommended Posts

I was in my early 20's when we got the Panthers and over the years heard constantly that Carolina would have a real fan base when my generation's kids grew up as Panther fans.  I have seen this happening.

I have a 4 year old nephew who is a diehard Panther fan and watched all the games.  Both my brother (his father) and myself are big football and Carolina fans thought we've never pushed the kids to love them.  They're just around our fandom.  My nephew has turned into a full blown football nut.

He played his first year of recreation basketball this year.  The goals are lowered to 7 feet.  All the kids shoot underhanded.  You get the picture.  A few weeks ago it was their last game and my nephew hits a basket.  After scoring he runs full speed back down the count....dabbing all the way.  Yes, dabbing.  No one taught him to do this.  One arm around his head, forehead down while the other arm trails behind him as he streaks down the court.

He also does the Cam superman (although not on the count).  And he tells me he has a special TD dance but won't show me until he scores a TD.  He's playing next year.  Last week I saw him he was wearing two Panthers jerseys, a Cam one with a Luke one over top of that one, a Panthers beanie which he alternated wearing with his Panthers helmet.

Has anyone else kids gone Panther crazy?

My 9 year old, and 4 year old, both have Panthers themed bedrooms.  I never mentioned the idea to either of them, though I think the little one mostly wanted it because of his big brother.  Both are also quick to talk smack to the opposition... likely from watching dad.

Just now, Captain Obvious said:

My 2 year old can't stop saying Keep Pounding, Go Panthers, luuuukke. and lately her favorite has been yelling reaaadddyyy like Cam. Because she will do this randomly like last night while we were watching family feud. She cracks me up.

I know exactly what you mean.  I love hearing my nephew saying "Whook Creekwe" and "Cam WewTON"

Yeah I've been seeing little kids in Cam/Luke jerseys here in Southern California. I know people who tell me their kids are big Panther fans now. It's really cool to see because I remember when I first started wearing my Kevin Greene Jersey, or my Peppers/Smith jersey during the superbowl run.

I can't tell you how many parents I've seen at BoA this season that are toting Panther fans under 18. Alot of times, those parents are wearing jerseys of other teams.

The Panthers are cultivating a new generation of fans with a new culture, even stealing young fans from their families ;)

my 8 year just wants to know if we one after he comes in from playing outside. My 14 year old son watches the with me.  He's on laptop and phone all day reading about the Panthers. I think he's secretly on the huddle because he tells panthers new around the same time I read it on here.  I think he might be becoming crazier than me.  He only talks about Panthers now and nothing else. I love it

At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
