Steve Smith was the only good thing about this team for so long, for that I appreciate him.  However, we needed to move on and so did Cam to become who he is today.  He forced too many passes into Smith.   It's almost like losing KB in a way, he was forced to learn to spread the ball around.   Sometimes coaches have to move on, despite being good coaches.  It just happens.

The 53 guys that banded together as a team to go on this incredible run deserve the rings....no one else. Why not give Jake, Moose, and Peppers a ring then to follow this logic. Just another ex player for the Panthers who has had a nice career. Nothing more and nothing less

So yesterday on NFLN when they were making the game picks…Kurt Warner tried to insist to Smitty (who was a guest on the show) that he should pick the Cardinals since he was wearing a red tie.  Smitty told him he was a man who made his own choices and he CHOSE/PICKED Carolina for the win.  He knew who the better team is and he had many positive things to say about Cam and the team in general.

Smitty was hurt/disappointed at being released - he gave his heart/soul/body to the Panthers and I can understand being angry over that.  I can understand not wanting to show that you were hurt, we all do it.  We front to disguise our true hearts.  His HEART is still with Carolina and proof is what I saw before the game on NFLN and now this display of support.  

He's #agent89 and I got nothing but MAD LOVE for this man and hope when he is ready to hang his cleats, it's as a Panther.  I hope the same for DeAngelo and I know they both will lick their wounds and be welcomed back when it's time.  #KEEPPOUNDING and I LOVE #89.

You get a ring for being part of the team that won it all this season. It's not some kind of lifetime achievement award.

Plenty of respect for what Smith did when he was here, but he's not here anymore.

Hope Smitty gets his statue when he finally hangs it up. He certainly deserves it. That Sam Mills statue still gives me goosebumps every time I walk up to it.

His being let go is part of the "coming around".

Like it or not, his release was part of making the team what it is now.

Smith wasn't giving it his all here.  You could tell there in the final season or even before that.   When he went to the Ravens, he turned it on, at least early on, so you could tell he needed some motivation.  I think he would still be here if he would have accepted the vet role and not demand passes thrown his way each play.   He had his chance to assimilate to the role we needed him to fill and he didn't want to.  Sometimes, you just have to move on, and it made Cam a better player when he took over the team.   I don't think Rivera and Gettleman will keep vets around unless they accept their role.  Look on our team right now.  Guys like Harper, Tillman, Allen, etc, they know what is up, they aren't demanding unjust playing time or whatnot.   They had a vision and that's how this team is built now, for better or worse.
