Rivera: "I was coaching against my instincts early on"

Rivera was just interviewed on WFNZ talking about his time with the Panthers.

One of the things he said that caught my attention was that when he first started coaching here, he was actually coaching against his own instincts.

Rivera said he thought that he couldn't do things exactly the way that he truly wanted to now that he was a head coach. Talking to John Madden after things started going wrong gave him the confidence to just say "screw it" and do it his way.

So in reality, "Riverboat" wasn't a change for him. It was basically Rivera letting go of his inhibitions and deciding to be himself.

I have no words how describe this nor do have any clue how you received no pie for it.

This is by far the best thing I have ever seen in my life and I wish I was a poet so I culminate a list of words and phrases describing the beautiful thing that this is.

    • What people fail to understand is Lance had a college career that lasted about as long as teenage boys first intercourse.  To say he was raw was an understatement.  So much so that even a QB whisperer had a difficult time molding him into a polished NFL product on top of multiple nagging injuries.  The dud is in his mid-twenties, finally healthy and little miles on the tread.  Low risk, high reward.  If he's available, it would be stupid not to kick the tires.  It took Darnold and Mayfield to hit their 3rd or 4th team for things to finally click.  This is Lance's 3rd stop, I believe.  It's either time for it to click for him or be relegated to a full time backup. Roll the dice....
    • Wrong.  At least we put a QB sneak in the play book and and add plays over 20 yards.
    • I don’t know if people realize that Evan’s was one of the top TE prospects in college  before having some horrible injuries. I wanna say he had two major injuries in back to back seasons which limited his play and dropped his draft stock.
