Does this team become a legendary team if we win the SB convincingly?

I wonder if we manage to beat the Broncos as convincingly as we did the Seahawks in the first half of that game and AZ all game, won't we be only the 3rd team all time to go 18-1 and win the super bowl?

I wonder if 10+ years in the future people will say 2015 panthers was one of those legendary teams or if they were a team that simply was a good team that happened to win almost all their games.

I mean I know from our perspective having watched all the games we know what happened. But I'm just thinking from a general nfl fan perspective. Maybe its not such a good question right now, especially if we are going to win multiple super bowls within the next 10-12 years then its feasible we'll have even better teams going in the future. But even with that being said, having a better team than this year in years in the future, doesn't mean they'll win or make the SB so..

According to this article the 2015 panthers would rank about 6th all time in Super Bowl winning teams of NFL.

Interesting question.

Obviously how we win the super bowl would factor into the "legacy" of the team.   But just based on the season so far, obviously our two dominant performances in the playoffs have been a huge factor in increasing the respect / awe for this team and its performance.  So do 10 pro-bowl nominations, and the 8 all-pro nods... (including 2nd team), and Cam as presumptive MVP.

Personalities help make teams remembered as great, not just stats.  So obviously the "star" factor for Cam and Luke is huge.  (Luke's 2 pick 6s in back to back playoff games... just amazing).  TD playing in the super bowl with a broken arm.  J-No and his mega watt personality... even Michael Oher and the blindside.  There are some very good story lines going into this game, and many more on the Panthers side, I think, than the Broncos side.  Perhaps I've missed them, since, granted, I haven't been reading a ton of Broncos-focused articles.  But on the Denver side, the main storyline seems to be "win one more for Peyton."  There really seems to be more of a "buzz" around the Panthers in the national media and CERTAINLY on social media.

One thing that may work against having this Carolina team being remembered as one of the "greatest of all time" might be the fact that we're such a balanced team.  Good on both offense & defense.  Good in both passing & running.  Different stars emerging in different games...  so it's not like the '85 Bears where the defense was ridiculously dominant.  It's not SIMPLE to explain our greatness.  This is truly a team winning as a TEAM.   Team chemistry explains our W-L total as much or more than simple stats.

I think that may explain why the Panthers greatness this season kind of "snuck up" on people.  Obviously the strength of schedule argument also camouflaged a lot of our greatness.  People were discounting our wins because of who we were playing.  But also the fact that sometimes it was our offense winning games, sometimes our defense.... made it harder for people who may not have been watching to really understand who we are as a team.  There wasn't a simple "soundbite" reason to explain our success, especially early in the season when our "stats" (especially Cam's) didn't really match our wins.  The stats showed a mediocre team, while our wins showed an undefeated one.   (Obviously Cam & the teams stats rose dramatically in the last half of the season, making it hard for anyone paying attention to doubt we were really really good...)

It will be interesting indeed to see how this team is remembered in the coming years.

Whatever happens, I'm just glad that in many ways, even from 4000 miles away most of the year, I've had a front row seat from OTAs onwards.

I would like to think so.

Part of the problem with many in the national media:

1) Many did not pick the Panthers to be a good team this season (especially after Benjamin was hurt), therefore some don't know, slow what to think now.

2) They did not watch many Panther games; therefore they have no idea how good this teams really been. See #1 above. LOL

If the Panthers win by a blow out, they should definitely be one of the handful of Greatest Single Season Teams. Even if they "just win" by 6-7 pts, they should still qualify.

However, let's win the game first, then wait for any potential laurels.

You go 18-1 you are one of the greatest TEAMS ever.  We aren't talking Dynasty just Season.

As they say, it is hard to win in the NFL.  18 - 1 means you are a great team.  Only 1 team in NFL history will end up with a better percentage point and that is Miami Dolphins 1972.  New England finished 18-1 but lost the SB.  I believe only the Chicago Bears finished 18-1.  Regardless no one will have a better record.

You can argue all you want among those teams but YOU HAVE TO INCLUDE CAROLINA.

However, let's win this one and then we can talk about it.

The super bowl is so hard to win, that any team that does win it becomes legendary in their own right. But, there are teams who are legends even amongst the winners, and yeah, I think this team could easily be up there in terms of greatest season ever.

If we crush Denver many will still say the AFC was just weak, old, and injured this year. We'd have a better shot at a perceived 'legendary' team if we hadn't let Seattle back in the game in the 2nd half. Then there's the loss to the Falcons. SB winners at 19-0 would silence a lot of critics.

      It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.

      I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
