Jake Delhomme, an unknown even among the unknowns, came on board in 2003, two seasons after Carolina had set a then NFL record for futility with a 1-15 season (followed by a 7-9 season under the arm of the aged Rodney Peete). He came in at the half in the first game of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and brought the team its greatest come from behind victory in its history.

Then, this guy you say sucks, took a minor market team with no stars all the way to the Super Bowl (in which he set a Super Bowl record for longest scoring pass with Moose) only to lose in the final seconds.

He was the one who piloted the ship to the franchise's high water mark.

The next year, we followed the history of the Super Bowl losers before and since, dropping out of playoff contention.

The next year, he leads a battered and bruised team to the NFC championship game, only to lose to Seattle. That year, every danged person who took on the role of running back for the team was seriously injured at some point during the season. Davis -- IR, Foster -- IR, Rod Smart -- IR, Brad Hoover -- concussion, Nick Goins -- injured in the playoffs.

Missed playoffs next year.

The next year, Jake starts off the first four games of the year as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. His passing is literally tearing up the opposition. Then, he destroys ligaments in his throwing arm and is out for the season. Carolina then nose dives as they plow through every quarterback on their roster and even some dating back to the Otto Graham days (okay, almost that far back). The team flounders without Jake as a leader.

Last year, he comes back after Tommy John surgery (the first NFL quarterback to ever do so) and leads the team to a 12-4 regular season record, the best regular season record the club has had. He almost lost a couple of games for us, but he got us to the playoffs.

And then comes, THE GAME. Arizona, who would go on to the Super Bowl (and a few plays short of a win), out games us, out plans us, out plays us. And Jake has the worst game in his career, on his birthday, in front of a national audience. He lays an egg. A big, rotten one.

And he mans up and takes it all on his shoulders. He takes the blame. Defense can't stop Fitzgerald? Jake takes the blame. Blown routes? Jake takes the blame. O-line worn down and unable to stop the pass rush? Jake says he should have gotten the ball out faster.

One of the worst games that matters in Panthers history and he takes the blame for it (and a good chunk of it was his admittedly). But each one of the 12 wins that year? He pointed to his teammates and said how they had won them.

And now, he plays, THE GAME II to start this season off. He laid another egg. He threw massive interceptions, fumbled the ball twice and lost the game. No one came off the bench and saved the day for the Panthers. One guy tried and got splattered. The third stringer some have proclaimed as the new savior for the team came in and somehow didn't walk on water. Heck he even threw a wounded goose or two and couldn't get the team over the goal line from the 1-yard line.

And Jake has taken the blame again publicly. And we're happily beating on him, gleefully in some cases. Hell, some idiots are also apparently making threats against him.

You'd think we were fans of a team that has a golden age to harken back to. Well, actually, I guess we are harkening back to those golden days. You remember those great days, when we strode like champions... those days that started one September, years ago when an unknown Cajun fellow came off the bench in a losing game and led us to the Promised Land.

Go ahead and kick him to the curb and send him packing. He'll look worthless for a while, kick around the league a bit until someone gets desperate for a quarterback with some, any experience. And we'll be like a bunch of Rams fans watching Kurt Warner lead their division rivals to the Super Bowl while our team languishes in 5-11 land.

Betcha he winds up in Tampa Bay.

the man is a bona fide race traitor who uses terms like bojanglery with a straight face and was such a waste of a writer he got fired from espn and every reputable publisher before resuscitating his career on a blog and finally getting rehired by foxsports, which is hardly any better than writing on wordpress

he's also, for reasons only known to him, still shilling for a team to rehire jeff george, and a guarantee he'll suggest that for Carolina when Jake's struggles continue.

Jason Whitlock needs to shut his fat ass up. Another talking head. Of course anyone can point out that Jake has had two bad games in a row, make that horrid games... And he shouldn't have been given that extension.

But this b.s. about a backup that masqueraded as a starter is bullsh*t. This fat motherf*cker probably never even watched one of our games, EVER. Jake was a LEGITIMATE starting QB in this league for several years. One of the top winningest QBs in his tenure as a starter, made the Pro Bowl, and ranked statistically in the Top 10 QBs for several years.

Career backup?

Watch a game you fat f*ck (before 2008)...

Jake was being pursued by the Cowboys when we signed him...

Now I believe he has lost all his confidence and I think his physical skills have diminished to a degree, and for that reason, I think he should've been given this year to prove he deserved another contract. Especially after the suspect game against Oakland last year, and then the Arizona debacle...

But, anyway... My point is, he should watch a f*cking game, maybe even a quarter of a game, before his fat ass tries to make an observation. That's why he got his ass fired from ESPN. Dumbf*ck.

Got to tell you he may not be the savior, but if he can easily distroy this franchise. Regradless of cap or no cap, panthers need him to be on this team next year. Could not afford to cut him. Hurneys belief is pickings will be extremely slim in FA and believes it takes time to develop a drafted qb. Clearly does not have faith in moore. Did seem higher on what feely could offer. Strong arm and experience. Pickings are slim.

IF he continues to go south so will this franchise, I hate it, but its clear to me.

This is a really bad example IMO. What have the Rams done since Warner has left.

Just think of when the Rams were in the Super Bowl. The year 2000. They cut Warner in 2002. Thats when Bulger starts. Right now Bulger has been starting 8 seasons and is at the down fall of his career. But before his downfall, he was very good.
