I've not paid attention to cap space. How does this much space compare to previous years?

We are going to have more cap space then this. We are not going to keep Johnson with a 15 million cap. We will reduce that in half or let him go and eat 4 million in dead cap space

Ever since Gettleman took over I have not been worried about him not managing the cap very well. He is great at making every dime count

Gettleman certainly knows the going rate for a CB of Norman's caliber, and he surely has a good idea about what Norman's agents are expecting.  With that said, the fact that Gettleman made it clear that he is looking to get a long-term deal done with Josh indicates that he is willing to pony up the money necessary to keep him...or at least be in the ballpark.

If he knew that Josh' people were looking for a much bigger contract than he is willing to even consider, then you would have heard a much more tepid expectation from him about the possibility of a long-term deal rather than a sense that something will get done.
