True but he's not as fast and fluid as he was in his mid 20s. Coleman, right now, has more speed then Weddle.

And that's why I don't see us shelling out 5+ mill to have him come here...if our FS situation was in flux then by all means bring him in...but now that he'd be coming off the bench/playing out of position I don't see Gman giving him that kind of money.

Quit with the Dean Marlowe poo.

If it's not Weddle, we'll be drafting a safety in the 2nd. Don't be surprise if it's Darron Lee if he's there at 31.

If Darron Lee is there at 31 we didn't take him.

Our front-7 doesn't warrant picking up an upper-tier safety.

Of our FO was worried about bringing in a safety, we would have, and still could, bring Harper back for another year or so.

We'll get someone to play safety, but it'll be at the vet-minimum or there-about.

I think G-man and Rivera want to keep this team young and hungry with savvy-vets at certain expendable positions.

That's a great point. Weddle would almost be a luxury pickup. Signing a backup DT is prob a bigger priority right now.

At S , Husain Abdullah, Antonio Allen, William Moore could be possibilities.

It will be his lost as far as winning a championship if he doesn't sign with the Panthers.

Maybe he can be a reporter talking about the Panthers in the SB like Greg Jennings was last year.

I just hope we re-sign Love and I think we still have Delaire but don't know how much he played on the inside.

Those names you threw-out there are probably closer to the mark of who we're in the market for.

It makes me wonder if we'll even draft an offensive player at all in this draft.

I'm still holding out hope for Weddle to come to Charlotte. It seems like the money is right and he's got veteran leadership in spades. As a matter of fact, there's been times in SD that he called the plays for the defense.

Coleman had a career year, but I have to wonder how many of his INTs were of the "right place, right time" variety. He's more than physical enough to play SS to accommodate Weddle and has experience playing both positions.

@carolina-chuck2 give me some points as to why not Dean M. Here are 3 points as to why Dean deserves a shot.

  • Gman feared cutting him and kept him on the 53 man all year.  He is young and picked the system up very quickly. He graded out in the mid 80's against the Pats
  • He has exceptional size and speed; Big hitter with Super Bowl experience
  • He intercepted everything thrown his way in training camp and in the pre-season.

So, If we give the snaps to Weddle, in two to three years we are looking again for a replacement and $$ would be tighter. If we give the snaps to Dean the sky is the limit. I think he deserves just a shot.

    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
    • Except it wouldn't be Rodgers leading them on a postseason run, it would be the defense and he's there to not screw up their great games. Which is why..... This times a million. I didn't watch a ton of the Jets last year, but from what I did see, Rodgers himself didn't look like a bum, the team just struggled and was more than likely due to poor coaching on the whole.  The Steelers don't need MVP level Rodgers to win games, they just need him to be good enough to make some plays when it matters because the defense is keeping them in games every week regardless. In their 7 losses last season, the Steelers scored 10, 13, 17, 17, 17, 19, and 24... while giving up 19, 20, 24, 27, 27, 29, and 34 in those games.  With only marginally better offense last year, they probably end up winning a few more games too. They only scored over 27 points in 3 games last season. I think this is a great move by the Steelers and if Rodgers can stay healthy all year, will get them back into the playoffs and could make some noise if their defense is up to the normal level of a Steelers defense.
