Does Darryl Williams have a legit shot at replacing Mike Remmers?

Again, being ranked at the bottom four of starters at your position isn't "satisfactory" nor is it "admirable" or "a solid job" or "other stupid cliche used to build up a bad player because he has a panther logo on his helmet"

He is a bad football player. This isn't a case of "yeah maybe we could do better" its a case of "we absolutely should find someone better"

The narrative that he is a"a solid football player, broes" needs to go away as quickly as possible before we get sucked into having this bad football player starting for our team for an extended period of time, costing us more games single handedly.

Wow, did you even watch the games all season or just Madden them and read the Huddle?

Remmers has been better than anyone expected from him. He has also gotten better. Remmers 8s not the only quality tackle to get abused by Denver's pass rush.  It's his job to lose.

I sure do love the potential of Daryl Williams. He has the makings of a very solid tackle. I pray he stays healthy, so he gets an opportunity to prove it to us all.

The burden of proof is on you to support that he's a 'bad player', because common metrics (e.g. PFF), Carolina's offensive performance with him on the field, the general 'eye test' and common sense don't really back up your case. The argument isn't that he's an untouchable star or that Carolina shouldn't upgrade, because pretty much everyone here believes that there should be competition and/or that Williams can be a better tackle - it's that you're incorrect in claiming that he's a Bell/Chandler-level player. "Average" doesn't mean "all-pro", but it doesn't mean "bad" either.

By what metric was Remmers ranked in the bottom 4 of starters at RT? He was middle of the pack by PFF.

my apologies, as a pass protector. I misread it. Doesn't invalidate my point. and given that his counter part was additionally a terrible pass protector, the team needs to decide if Daryl Williams has a future or if OT is massive priority (again)

They're both in the last year of their deals regardless

Are you suggesting Oher was a terrible pass protector? That's just plain wrong

lol did you just try to put forth his performance on the field as an example of why he's this commanding anchor of solidarity that will admirably hold down the line for years by virute of your hallowed eye test (an intricate examination no doubt performed by a savant like yourself)

Teams willfully started attacking him once it became evident he was the weak link on the offensive line, and he was the goat in our losses because of it. I fear what would happen if we didn't have the QB we did.

Are you even reading what's being written?

I've learned three things from this thread

1) I'm incredibly lazy reading PFFs grades and will take full credit for that

2) the Brenton bersin syndrome is alive and well, where every plucky white player with 'grit' and hair is gifted endless grace regardless of his performance on the field

3) the need at OT is much greater than I thought. Before when I saw mocks projecting us an OT I'd say "there are better ways we could go" but after really digging into in this thread, looking at the situation we're in with our OTs, it's even more apparent than before that we-for like the 5th consecutive season-have a major need at OT. Even if Daryl Williams is somebody who can be counted on, neither Oher or Remmers are guys I want to give long term contracts to

    • See my previous post. You're also leaving out that T-Mac was likely hitting a rookie wall, like 95% of rookies do late in their first season, combined with the added attention on him by defenses, which in turn would be why Bryce looked Coker's way down the stretch.  With Coker playing like that to start next year, defenses will have to pay attention to it, which will then also make things easier for T-Mac. All of which is also ignoring that T-Mac will just be a better player next year than he was this year, assuming he works on his game this offseason, which we all know he will be.  If a player who was already your clear cut #1 comes back even better his next season, you're going to make sure you're throwing it his way more often, no matter who else you have. Again, Coker's added targets won't be at the expense of T-Mac's, they will BOTH be taking targets from the rest of the team.  Not to mention, we should be passing it more next year to begin with, seeing as we'll have both of them hopefully ready to go full speed Week 1, which again, will help both their target totals increase. Coker looks like a really good player, but even the most optimistic person can't say he looks like he has #1 potential, he has very solid to maybe even high end #2 potential.  You're not taking targets away from the reigning OROY who looks like a true Top 15 WR already to get your #2 targets, you increase both of them by taking from the others.
    • Need to crush the hawks tonight. A lose would really damage momentum
    • Sorry, but this is a terrible breakdown that doesn't at all show what you're trying to say/project about T-Mac next year, as it leaves out key information that changes everything, it makes the opposite point that you're trying to. Chase missed 5 games that second season after playing all 17 as a rookie (and still saw more targets that second season). Puka it looks like you projected his stats out to a 17 game season (as he only played 11 games), but even still , when you have 160+ targets as a rookie, there isn't really much room to get any more the next year. Waddle saw an increase in yards, and sure, his targets went down, but he played on a team with a better WR that year who saw 170 targets for 1,710 yards during that 2nd season for Waddle... something T-Mac doesn't have to contend with on the same team (280+ targets for their top 2 WRs, if you don't think T-Mac would see more than 122 targets if him and Coker combined for 287, then you're nuts). Then Olave and Wilson both saw an increase of 19 targets in their second season. You basically just laid out the reasoning for why T-Mac should see at least 20 more targets next year, if not more, which would be a solid increase and put him easily into the Top 10 most targeted WR next season.
