I Don't Get The Celebration Here...

Luke doesn't make that much. Neither does anyone outside of Cam. He may make it but at what price: playing in Cleveland?  Greed was his downfall and since he said he doesn't want to talk about it now, it was evident that he overplayed his hand and thought he had all the leverage. Come on down Eli Apple.

No, Josh didn't earn 15-16m based on 1.5 years of work. 12-14m was more than enough. Again, Norman got to play with the likes of Kuechly, Davis, Short, Shaq, Star, Ealy, etc. If he couldn't see how lucky he was then... oh well. Go get paid, son

We basically had one pass rusher this season and that was KK.   Outside of KK, the team was okay overall on the season.

I have never been a huge Norman fan.  I also believe a great pass rush makes a secondary.   We didn't have a great pass rush though.  Overall, if KK wasn't wrecking shop our pass rush was too often rarely existent IMO.

You can spin it anyway you want. Josh isn't worth $16 mil a year. That's the reality that him and his agent don't want to see.

Who said he was?

people are arguing he was worth the tag for another Super Bowl run in 2016

First. No one, well very few of us, are celebrating. That is just.....silly, and a poor way to make a point. And the ones that are celebrating are not worth listening to anyways. We will miss Josh. He is going to be tough to replace that's for sure.

Second. Until we know the facts, which we may never find out, we have to believe that Gman did exactly what he said. Which was to tell Josh and his agent that they could try to work out a trade. That didn't happen. Whether Josh tried or not, it just never materialized.

Third. Gman did Josh a favor by letting him go. Josh is now free to work out a deal he can live with. Because obviously, he wasn't getting the deal he wanted from us.

Fourth. If Josh wanted to be a Panther, he could have signed the tag. Then we move on from there. But it seems Josh wanted more than what we could offer. Hence Josh is now a FA.

Lastly. Josh did not get embarrassed. If he felt he was, it is because he didn't get what he wanted. Because as things look now, Gman had a talk with them and set the record straight. Josh probably knew this was coming from that talk. If he is embarrassed, it is because things didn't work out the way he wanted.

If I'm asking for a roughly 1000% raise like Josh is after a year and a half of good to great performance, my boss would probably be a little hesitant as well. Another company might hire me for that price, though.

I love Josh the player. Seems awesome off the field as well. But I love the Panthers more. I'll take re-signing KK and Star over Josh any day.

But that's my point...  i don't understand people fist bumping and high fiving because he tried to get a little more money than what was offered and GMan told him to shove it.  That's not entertaining or amusing to me.  He did what anyone would do in that situation and tried to maximize he earnings.  Players do the same thing every year - they don't sign the tag, rumors start flying that they'll holdout, they don't practice with the team, they don't attend meetings or OTAs, and almost always, the team weathers the storm and the player's expectations become more realistic and they come to an agreement.   But, GMan just gave him the boot at a horrible time and leaving us with yet another need going into the draft.

Obviously, only GMan and Norman's camp knows what all is behind it, but it doesn't sound like Norman ever expected this...  just as i mentioned, I'm sure he thought he was just playing his part until the numbers settled.

Just like i said in the OP, the team is my number one priority, but I don't see how this helps the team as of right now.  I also am a fan of Josh as a public person and a player, so that angle makes it tougher to digest as well.  But, we'll see what haplens from here I guess...

We were what, 4th in sacks? Seems like our pass rush was pretty stout to me. A team is more than just one player. And our sack total showed that.

In fact, our pass rush was good enough to make Finnegan, and McClain look pretty good. How come that isn't good enough for some people. Oh I see, we didn't lead the league in sacks so we must be lacking in that department.

People  have to look at this from a total team standpoint. If JNo is rated a 10, and is paid 16 mil a year, and Gettleman feels he can get a 6 at cb, plus add a few plus 3s in other positions for the same 16 mil, it makes more sense to let JNo go.

It's about improving the total team. This is a rough business with no guarantees. JNo should go get paid while he can. It's just unfortunate it couldn't be here.

It was totally unprofessional on Gettleman's part. Oh, he's sulking that Josh won't sign the tag? Welcome to the world of GM/player negotiation. All 31 other GMs would have kept a dialogue going throughout the summer and for as long as necessary. Josh said he wouldn't holdout. Remember Kam Chancellor last year? He DID hold out and then he came back and had a great season for the Seahawks and the Seahawks aren't in cap hell today.

If that's what your head is set on, that's what it's set on. To me, that's nothing but a hyperbolic statement coming from emotion that has literally ZERO backing other than the scenario you've created in your head.

The tag was there. Gman has tried getting long term deals done twice. Once, at 11-12 million. He doesn't value corners as highly as others. He's been nothing (publicly) but supportive of Josh it seems. He wished him well. He would probably take him back with open arms at 12 million. But Josh wants more. Josh can, and will, get more. And the Panthers will move on. You act like Gettleman literally told Josh to fug off unless he met his demands. I would assume a lot of numbers were talked about. Hell, Gettleman probably even ran some math that gave Norman a big ass contract. He didn't like it. He made a decision. If that's telling a player to shove it, then I'd hate to see Gettleman be nice to someone.

Ealy has come along nicely. That's not on him that Rivera didn't play him enough. Star's job isn't to rack up sacks. Johnson had a mediocre season but he had a solid playoff compaign. I think we'll be better this season.

Ealy had a great Super Bowl and I look forward to the future.   But my comment was strictly on Norman's play last season....people act as if a great pass rush made him.  Overall, we didn't have that last season.  We had KK having a great season.   When KK wasn't being a one man force our pass rush was quiet much of the year.

so when talking Norman it isn't fair to act like a front made his season because of how the year played out (a performance I was wrong about as labeled "hater")

we got worse today because Dave wants to set his tone.  That hurts us going into next season....Dave has to make sure it pays off in the long run.

You should go talk to KK and find out what made the DL tick.
