2015 Panthers DT Snap Counts

Well, to be fair, Star's snaps were skewed because of his foot injury.  Nevertheless, If Butler shows he is ready to play, they will find snaps for him.  I just wonder about giving all three guys enough snaps next year and beyond if we don't get rid of any of them.

If Butler develops like the team obviously expects, he'll need to be on the field, and we can't limit KK's snaps because he's just too dominant.  That leaves Star as the odd man out.  Perhaps if Butler shows out this year they will pull Star's 5th year option and take a 3rd for him rather than pay him 9 million or so along with KK's 16.

What did Shaq see last year?  Probably right around 30% of snaps.

Drafting for immediate need leads to reaching and getting yourself into trouble.  When you reach, you not only fail to properly upgrade the position that you're reaching for, but you also miss an opportunity to upgrade at another position.  It's a double whammy.  Gettleman refuses to reach based on need.

We can't know all the reasoning behind this pick.  I'm sure we've had preliminary discussions with Short regarding a new contract.  He's a DT who just had double digit sacks.  That's rare.  If we don't get him locked up this offseason and he has another monster season, he may be looking at a Suh deal.  I doubt we'd give him a Suh deal.  Especially if Butler shows promise.

I expect the Panthers to get more help on offense as well in this draft. More points will allow less big guys. With that said he is effectively taking Edwards job and Edwards would have played more if he were not so old.

Plus, how often does an NFL team go through and entire 16 game season and, hopefully the play offs, with all of their D-line starters 100% healthy? I guarantee you that we had at least one DT on this team that could have used a little more rest late in the season than what they got.

You can literally say this for almost every position

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
