As expected the Panthers signed Duke tight end Braxton Deaver, a tryout player at this weekend's rookie camp, according to a tweet from his college strength coach. Coach Ron Rivera said on Saturday that Deaver was a player the Panthers would have to consider.

Per source, tryout OT Jordan Rigsbee has indeed signed w/Panthers.

Oh! I predicted this.  In looking at the stuff that was online about him, three things stood out.

1) Leadership (team captain) and you can really see his leadership in one of the FX videos online about him

2) Versatile - can play multiple positions on the line (tackle & guard)

3) It doesn't hurt that he's from Cal (Ron's alma mater).... but also he probably got more attention than he might otherwise have because of Goff.  Some of Goff's success makes his Oline look good.

2) Has made 49 starts at 4 diff positions. 16 LG,  13 RG,  12 RT,  8 C

Rigsbee looked dreadful at tackle in rookie camp. Abused in drills. Let's hope he is playing guard.

Trying to spin this in a positive way, Norwell sucked in drills too--but he was at G.

Realistically, even in the picture here, his technique is questionable.

Ah, thanks.  Sorry to hear that.  It's OT where we're really shaky on depth, unless G'man et al know something we don't about Foucault, Hawkins or Yankey.

I'm not sure I want any of Cal's OL from the past year on our team. They almost got Goff killed last year

Most places call him a natural guard that had to play T out of necessity.  Here is what a Cal blog said---

Jordan Rigsbee: Solid offensive linemen are hard to come by in the draft, and Rigsbee fits the bill. He's a solid offensive guard who has had to play out of position at multiple times at Cal, but he will get a chance to play at his natural spot this season if all goes according to plan. He's a mauling offensive guard who likes to put people onto the ground. Rigsbee is going to be highly sought after with a successful campaign.

Walter Football (hate to quote Walter, but here goes):

Jordan Rigsbee, G, California
Height: 6-4. Weight: 300.
Projected 40 Time: 5.21.
Projected Round (2016): 5-7.

4/26/16: Rigsbee was okay for California despite having some issues in pass protection on occasion. He should get stronger for the NFL. Rigsbee had some issues with UCLA nose tackle Kenny Clark. Rigsbee didn't work out at the combine.

8/15/15: Rigsbee was a reliable blocker in 2014 and did a good job of helping to create a clean pocket for Jonathan Goff. Rigsbee broke into the lineup in 2012 as a redshirt freshman. He has played well at left guard the past couple of seasons. For the NFL, Rigsbee looks better as a zone blocker, but he could add weight for a man scheme.

CBS SPORTS
On tape, Rigsby looks shorter and stockier than his listed size. His stout frame and tenacity is well-suited to the interior, where the battles are won and lost with leverage and power. Rigsby plays with heavy hands, jolting defenders with his initial punch and shoving them off the line when run blocking. He plays with a nasty disposition, scrapping through the whistle's echo.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
