Great signing there Gettleman! $80,000 in dead money now. For a guy that never played a down for us, cut 2 months after signing.

It's .05% of the salary cap. Who cares from that perspective. I just want to know why.

Shoot for the moon and even if you miss you'll land among the stars

Keep trying SMF one day, one day you'll actually become a good troll

This offseason certainly is full of surprises...

Most of us here were excited about signing Boykin, thought it one of the best moves Gettleman could make...  and now we let him go.

A somewhat lesser shock, of course, than letting Josh walk after tagging him, but still a pretty big surprise.

If you're a vet looking for a new team, this looks really bad for us as a team.  He came here pretty cheap, wouldn't surprise me if he took less to come here than somewhere else, then gets cut after all the FA stuff has slowed down.

I just don't understand this, unless some more info comes out, but I'm not sure how you take some rookie(s) over a guy with experience.

Also, I guess this gives us more likelihood of getting that comp pick.

Actually, this may push us into 2 picks territory if I understand the formula right (I don't).

Qualifying FA Additions

Gino Gradkowski (may fall below qualifying cutoff because of playing time/contract)

Qualifying FA Departures

Josh Norman (3rd)

Brad Nortman (7th)

Anyone else think that this has more to do with a logjam at Nickle? I know they are big believers in size at the CB position, they have really resisted letting Bene play outside because of his size, I personally think they feel comfortable with having 2 nickles on the 53 in Sanchez and Bene, and letting the rookies and development guys play outside. Boykin was always going to be a nickle back and it seems like we are set and have a proven nickle in Bene.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
