Wed Minicamp tweets

I've got some time free while I wait for an overseas colleague to call me for a teleconference, so let me post some of the tweets about today's minicamp.  Sounds like it was a spirited session, with Cam throwing some hot TDs, but then defense getting into it and getting some picks...  Eager for Igo's update!

damn they're feeding these young CB's to the wolves. Best way to get prepared IMO.

Looks like they're making plays though.

"Zack Sanchez jumps a short route and should have picked off Cam Newton. Great read by rookie CB. "

" A few minutes after Tre Boston picks Cam, rookie Daryl Worley get him. "

Gotta give the dbs a break.  Facing the #1 scoring offence and mvp in situations that dont benefit the defense.

These young guys should be prepared by the season starter and atleast be serviceable.

On the flip side cam is going to destroy the league this year.  We are going to beat people up on offense.

As long as there is a good bit of coaching along the way, I can get behind this. Let the kids make their mistakes. IMO, there is no better way to teach than to correct mistakes. And unless you are on the field to put into practice what you learn, it is more difficult to learn from those mistakes. So I too am glad these kids are getting lots of reps. If they are as athletic, and smart, as we have been told, all these reps should pay off big time.

Best case, the kids do well enough that our pass D isn't a total clustercoitus. Worst case, Cam is going to have to have another MVP type season to just outscore folks. Either way, it is going to be an interesting experience watching these kids grow.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
