I inherited my dads stamp collection. I have no idea of its value but I don't think its alot.  Its a pretty small collection.  Doesn't seem to be really any where in charlotte to sell it at.  Recommendations?

look up some local coin shops and call them.  I'm talking real coin shops and not pawn type spots.  I'm too far away from but my local coin shop guy can pretty much give you a ballpark on all kinds of random collections.  A lot of them dabble in collectables in general.

I wouldn't sell it until you found someone that legitimately can tell you what you got.  Also, if you find someone that is willing to buy it, I wouldn't sell it to the first guy offering money either.

that is my 2 cents as a "coin nerd".

I love it.  The history aspect is my favorite.  Plus, I like the fact I can pass it on to my kids and even if it isn't there thing or they don't want dads quirky hobby as a memonto..they can actually cash it in for something at some point as an added bonus when I am gone

what do you like to collect? I dabble in a lot.  Peace dollars are my favorite though.  I also have recently gotten into stashing some of the new bullion stuff for my kids.

i can't say i'm serious about it because i don't actually go seeking out specific pieces to add to collections. it's been a long time since i actually went out and purchased coins. as a kid i was obsessed with it though and ended up amassing a massive international selection. i have a pretty nice collection of 19th and early 20th century british coins, a bunch of wartime french and german coins, tons of late colonial pieces from around the world.

i remember being twelve and freaking the fug out when i found a mint condition coin from morocco with the date 1355 on it... i thought i was going to be rich. then i found out that's the islamic calendar. such disappointment

to date my collecting mostly consists of seeking out a diversity of currency whenever i travel, so i have a humungous unorganized stock of modern coins from all over the place that i need to sort through eventually

Sweet.  I think that is awesome.

the more diverse, the more interesting.

I'm kinda priced out of going back much further in US coinage than I am.  Gets too expensive other than just trying to get lucky finding people that are uninterested and sitting on a nerds dream.
