Met Steve Smith today

He held a football camp for kids at Fort Meade today, so I brought my daughter to go meet him.  It was very hot, but worth it.  Stood in line and asked him if he'd take a picture with my daughter and he said of course, and then offered to sign my jersey.  Was real nice, great guy.  I did fish for some intel on my way out, I said "Thank you very much Sir, and I can't wait to see you come back and retire with us in a few years."  He replied "Don't hold your breath."  He didn't seem mean about it, but he wasn't smiling either, heh.  Guess there's still some hard feelings.  Can't blame him though.  He was very nice to me and my daughter anyway.

How so?

I honestly don't know why people believe it was handled poorly. Unless I completely missed something.

Some people would have preferred it was handled a little more ceremoniously than as if he were some practice squad guy that got let go. But that's not the point of this thread, I don't wanna get into an argument about old news.  I'm just happy I was able to shake the hand of my favorite player of all time and he was very nice to me and my daughter, standing out there shaking hands, taking pictures and signing autographs with a buncha people in the scorching heat after running a football camp for an hour or two.

Classic case of a great person taking business a little too personal.

It is what it is. That sense of holding a grudge is what drove Smith to be as a great as he is.

He'll come back and retire a Panther I think, he has too much respect for Mr. Richardson not to.

All I will say is that Steve Smith, who I loved, had a laundry list of unprofessional behavior.  He probably didn't get a ceremonies farewell due to responding to the news unprofessional ly.  Even then Gettleman made a statement thanking Steve and wishing him and his family the best after saying it was not an easy decision to make. Some players want to act like divas but be treated with the respect they haven't shown others along the way.

Once Steve is finished playing, he'll come back and retire here.  If he's still using it as fuel, so be it. That's how he's always been. He loves the Carolinas, and he works hard to give back to them,  and that's all that really matters anyways

    • The year he had another edge rusher opposite him in Reddick, Reddick ended up having more sacks. Burns was good at rushing the passer here but he was taken out of plays far too often by a single TE or you'd never even known he was in the game at all.  The Rams offer was equivalent to prime Khalil Mack or a TJ Watt. Those guys single handedly took over games and stopped drives. I can't remember a game Burns ever did that. Do we wish we had the level of production hes giving right now? Of course. Do I think we'd have it here. No.  At the time, his production was on par with Reddick, not Parsons. Pay production and incentivise potential.
    • Technically our guys are in the top 6 in sacks for rookies and Scourton is tied for the lead.
    • That's why so many said he wasn't worth it here, there was only DB and it wasn't enough. If Burns is feasting then the other guys in NY are doing enough already, Burns is just collecting the stats. It's what he eas built for and is finally in his perfect space to succeed. Im not as in on the new guys yet. More is an understatement but the good news is that they are rookies.
