The Panthers need to play the cards they are dealt defensively.

I haven't really noticed Everette Brown on the field much. Did he not have 3 sacks and a FF in preseason? Granted that was likely against 2nd stringers, but Peppers was invisible yesterday, you'd think we give the guy a few shots considering we couldn't even get close enough to Ryan to hit him with a 10 ft pole.

There were some close ones.

Also, one of Brown's preseason sacks came against the Dolphins Pro-Bowl LT.

We sent DBs on blitzes like 3 straight times on one possession in the 2nd half. They beat it every single time for a 10 yard gain...

While in the Cover 2. Again, Atlanta knows this.

Go back and see how Matt did last year vs zone blitzes.

Saftey blitz is riskier. Zone blitz with an LB is not. Now if they do that while in the cover 2 that keeps the underneath looking like that storm cloud on Neptune.

they were blitzing. it wasn't working.

sounds like a typical Fox defense then. None of it worked last season either. Can't expect the Carolina offense to do what it did the second half of last......defensive guru? If another national media outlet says that about Fox my head might explode. Joe Wilson would set them straight......YOU LIE!

people are still calling him a defensive guru?

I heard it yesterday......guys from the major networks don't watch Carolina. It is really hard to tell Fox is/was a defensive guy....hard to tell what really defines him besides the reputation of running the ball....which he also likes to get away from.

From what I understood, Meeks's system was to use the front four for pressure and use speed to get to the ball. I just think he may need to play with the cards he was delt. He didn't put this defense together. Also I think Harris being out has limited them.

that was the basic principle of last year's defense also.

The defense looked alot better the first half of last season. They seemed to lay down late in the season. There is no fire or spark nothing. It seems like the old pilosophy of bend don't break BS. I don't like the Meeks pick up either. We got some game changers on defense, they should scheme to use those talents and cause havoc for offense's instead of waiting for for the play to come their way.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
