Panthers Sign Safety Stevie Brown

LOL, so you think he's just here so they don't have to play a LBer at safety in that last preseason game?

I think he is here just in case of the unlikely event that a better option isn't available after final cuts are made.

Take a look at how long they took to find someone and in how little of a hurry they were to sign anyone. Tells me it would not be hard to upgrade.

Makes sense. I just can't get over the fact that the guy was healthy and out of football last year. There has to be a better option out there after cuts.

That's BS. Boston has been making plays on defense and ST's since he's been here. I just don't understand this hate toward the guy.

I minored in Godfrey at The Huddle School of Hardknocks.

Godftrey made TONS of plays.  That is what he did.  Big splash plays.  Issue is inbetween those was a guy who played S below average.

I kicked Godfrey all the time because the dude had the tools to be the real deal.   Not sure I can name a S in Carolina in the recent past with better physical tools (can name a lot with lesser tools that were better football players)

I don't hate Boston.  Everyone wants him to be the guy.  If he is we don't have to bring in old washed up JAGs and continue to have a spot to address the next year.  But he hasn't done anything to suggest he can hold down a S spot for full game and not being sporadic.  Sporadic is something we are willing to let rookie DBs be in 2016.  They need help on the field

Solely based on physical skills? I can name one currently on the roster. Colin Jones.

Jones is fast in a straight line.  Lot of track speed guys aren't great athletically in terms of football tools

Jones significantly outperformed Godfrey in the 3 cone and short shuttles as well.  6.69 vs. 7.28 and 4.09 vs. 4.40.  Also 20 reps of 225 vs. 14.

Jones is simply a far better pure athlete.

Now that I look it up, Boston outperformed Godfrey in both the shuttle and 3 come as well.

colin jones is probably the worst player ive ever seen the panthers start on either offense or defense.

This is not even remotely true. Have you seen more than a season at most of Panther games?

    • Yep. It was an obvious red flag that a lot of people ignored. The results/scores in preseason don’t matter, but individual performance very much does and individually, we looked like the least talented team in the league and it carried over.
    • Sorry, but in 2015, we didn’t look like poo to the extent of 2023. People who said it’s just preseason were completely wrong. Simple as that. 2015 was a veteran lead team. It was Cam’s 5th year and Luke’s 4th. Even our OL was 80% the same (added Oher) as the great run to finish 2014 with a playoff win. That year can be labeled as preseason doesn’t matter because I’m sure we rested vets and well, Ron/Mike weren’t putting in special plays, etc. I absolutely don’t recall a bunch of us saying that Turner was getting killed on one on ones or that Luke was completely out of position or that Norman was hurt again but probably fine. The only thing that was right about the 2023 preseason is that the minority of us who saw it, were correct that we A) should have been making Young and others play 100% of the reps as there was nothing to hide and B) the preseason means nothing was a bunch of BS trying to stay optimistic when it was obvious that we had way less good talent than the rest of the NFL.
    • You are telling me Paul Maurice is a better coach than Rod??? Yes!!!  It’s because he plays a better system and has a better goalie.   Our system sucks in playoffs and he refuses to roll with Koochie. Dallas cowboys level poo
