Didn't want to come here today... but did... Didn't see it on the front page... but Shula...

This right here.  Stewart got us to that third and one and we tried to get cute.  Should have handed the ball back to him.

Also..  I'm so tired of the Tolbert runs..

Hell, I thought we should have quick snapped the ball and Cam drive forward for an easy 1st on a QB sneak.

I want to go back and see but my initial look at that tipped ball was that Cam was a little late on the throw and gave the defender time to close in on the receiver.  I could be wrong.

It was a tad late and a tad behind IIRC, but, I don't think it was a good play call to begin with. 2nd and 4 with a ton of time when you've shown you can run and sustain a long drive on the ground, an In route is probably the last route I would call. Too much risk throwing to the middle of the field, even though the linebackers had abandoned the box. You still have man-to-man and zone safeties to account for and, as evidenced from the play last night, a tip on such a play can be a nightmare situation.

I still feel like Shula makes bad decisions at critical points in the game, and doesn't make good enough adjustments on the fly...

Specifically, the tipped pick play that Cam had...

It's the 4th quarter, at the beginning of a drive. You're in the lead. There's a lot of time left on the clock. You just got 6 yards on a run on first and 10. Your QB is starting to get more and more pressure as the game goes on. 2nd and 4 and you run an 8 yard in route?

Granted, it was a heck of a play by the Denver D. But we put them into position to make that play by not sticking to the run at that point.

I get it, we have All World targets and a QB that is elite. But, it is okay to run the ball in this situation.

Also, NOBODY could get open all game, apparently.

I think we only targeted Ginn and Brown a combined 4-5 pass plays.

We did absolutely nothing different on offense, and actually got worse, after halftime. That is what cost us the game, and Shula is at least partially to blame. IDGAF hate me or whatever, but it is true.

I can't remember, did the DB jump that early and hit KB early or was just a good play?

I'm just pointing out that picking one playcall that didn't work out as a reason for having a go at Shula is as stupid as having a go at Mcdermott for the Broncos TD.

It's not stupid at all. He completely out-thought himself in what should have been a no-brainer situation, as all coaches do from time to time. This situation happened to be high profile.

So I don't get it - what's the point of this thread and these comments? All it seems to be is out-of context over analysis of individual plays to try and prove how Shula called a bad game. He didn't. The O-Line was gassed towards the end and we got put in a bad position by the defence where we had to chase points late in the game while the Broncos D had their tails up.

my worst nightmare isn't this team being horribly shitty, it's being the andy reid eagles

a team that has good seasons and wins a lot but just has this unbelievable knack for making poor game management decisions at the worst possible times

I was talking with a buddy during the game.  I forget exactly what time of the game it was but the Panthers had a 3rd and 2 and were moving the ball pretty well. Shula called a play with Fozzy lined up behind Cam.  I told my friend that there was no way Fozzy was getting a handoff on third and short. He's not a short yardage specialist. The Broncos realized that too.

Cam faked it to him and tried to run around the left end.  Cam was promptly stuffed and the Panthers had to punt. I didn't like the call at all. But, I can see running that play with Stewart, Payne or even Tolbert lined up deep. But little Fozzy Whitaker as the decoy on 3rd and short?!  That's just one example where the team failed on a short 3rd down conversion and had to turn the ball over after a promising drive.
