Panthers may be winning, but fans still acting like losers

PSL owners can get offended by this as much as they would like, but we don't have a fan culture that correlates with the recent success of this team. Packers, Chiefs, Pats, Hawks, Cowboys, Steelers put us to shame

Does the huddle pay people to come make stupid posts? The Cowboys' stadium is constantly filled with fans of the opponent.

Go to a playoff game. Or a night game. Don't judge a fanbase by a 1:00 blowout game in an oven.

I'm not sure how many people realize how brutal it can be to sit out at BOA in a 90+ degree game in September, especially one that is pushing 4 hours long.  Hard enough to do sober, but when you add in alcohol, it becomes even more difficult to not only stay out there, but to stay loud the whole game.  You have to stay extremely hydrated and wear sun screen.  If you're not prepared you will likely end up in the shade of the concourse or leave early.

I don't think it's fair to criticize people for yesterday other than people not being there at kickoff.  That is embarrassing.  Otherwise, I think we have great fans all things considered.  Just watching at home you can tell a noticeable difference from several years back in how loud it sounds.

When the weather gets more bearable, fans stay in their seats and stay loud.  BOA has gotten way better in the last 5 years.  Obviously the product on the field is better, but I also think the fan base is maturing.  Sitting in the stands during a game with a heat index approaching or above 100 is just as hard as sitting through a game in the 20's IMO.

Trying to call fans losers for not sitting out in the blistering heat for 4 hours is ignorant and condescending.  I have seen a massive improvement in fan loyalty and loudness over the past 10 years.  In no way should one game be used to make sweeping judgments.

I went to a steelers chargers game and everyone sat down, even on 3rd downs. Its not what you think

This.  There is a common misconception that some fanbases have truly rabid fans across the board, and for the most part it's simply not true for several reasons.  Attend an away game and see for yourself.

It's mostly simple economics.  NFL tickets are expensive, and a certain percentage of fans that can afford the tickets are there to be seen and post pictures on social media, not to truly get loud.  A lot of the hardcore fans you see on TV are cherry-picked by the camera to promote the image they want.

Also, BOA would sound much louder had it been a dome or designed differently.  BOA was designed to optimize the view of all fans, not to create more noise like Seattle's stadium or others.  I think the fans at BOA are generating comparable noise, but how it's transmitted down to the field level is a function of how the stadium is constructed.

Longer established, bigger markets, and success (especially recent success) also contribute to the perception of the fan base.  The "average" fan attending a game is not necessarily as devoted to someone who frequents a message board.

The Panthers fanbase has improved dramatically in the past 5 years.  Cam Newton, winning, and being longer established all play a part.  I think the Panthers fanbase overall is very representative of most other fan bases.

Most of the other teams with "better" fans are bigger markets so they inherently have more fans based on population alone and will accordingly have more "hardcore" fans.  The idea that the Panthers don't have good fans is simply not true by any objective measure.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
